Question about Chevrolet 1500

2 Answers

I've got a 2007 Chevrolet z71 pick up 1500 with 6.0 engine. 123000 miles on truck. Yesterday my service control throttle and service stsbilitrsk light came on. Truck shifted hard between gears. Took it in and they are telling me one cylinder is bad. A buddy of mine has same truck and it did exact same thing and dealership told him one cylinder was bad. Turns out it was a bad alternator on his truck. So I'm headed to get my truck from mechanic and I'm gonna have alternator checked out. I will post results. Anybody have similar issues?

123k is no miles at all for that motor. We have a huge fleet at work with double or more miles. Find a differant mechanic.

It might have a bad cylinder but I can't imagine that would adversely affect gear changes though it might be responsible for the lights.

In the same way I have difficulty accepting a bad alternator would have that effect, though the effect of a bad alternator, a low battery could have some strange effects...

I speculate the buddy with the similar truck isn't telling the whole story and maybe doesn't even know the whole story...

It also seems strange that a mechanic finding a bad cylinder didn't discover and report what actually was bad about it.

SOURCE: O2 check engine light

U may indeed have a faulty MAF or O2 sensor, the way to tell if the MAF or a vacuum leak is at issue is that both O2's will code lean, if only one codes lean then it is most likely just a faulty O2 sensor, I don't have your codes but this is the way we do things at the dealer for problems like yours. Remember the O2's are before the Cat's., after the Cat's they are called Cat efficiency monitors in the book.

SOURCE: Alternator may be overcharging?

Yes It sounds like the voltage regulator inside the alternator has gone wide open .It can also ruin your battery and explode the battery.I would have it hooked up to a alternator tester and just to make sure it's not just your gauge.hope this helps

SOURCE: Alternator may be overcharging?

Well, 18 volts is an issue. And can cook your battery. Proper voltage range is 13.6 to 14.2 volts
The lower the voltage, the higher the amperage so 18 volts is doing nothing as far as charging but is doing alot towards ruining the battery. Have both checked. The battery could have wasted the alternator. good luck. I bet your battery needs lots of water. If so, it may already be trash.

I have an 07 avalanche z71. I was driving the other day and the truck went into reduce engine power traction control disable check engine light and service air bag. Now it does it after five miles.

Get a computer diagnostics done and it will likely tell you what is wrong. You can buy readers now for less than $100.00. Otherwise you are really guessing.

COULD THE GAS PEDAL CABLE CAUSE THIS CODED PO507 to be high

Extracted from Engine-Codes.com

Code P0507

Possible causes

- Dirty throttle body

- Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged

- Faulty Electric throttle control actuator

- Intake air leak

- Poor electrical connection to the Intake Air Control (IAC) valve

help.jpg What does this mean?

Tech notes

If there are no intake leaks, clean throttle body, adjust engine idle and erase engine code. If the code comes back you may have to replaced the Electric Throttle Control Actuator (Motor) to repair the problem.

There is a factory service bulletin for the following Chevrolet models:

2006-2008 Chevrolet Trail Blazer

2007-2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

2007-2008 Chevrolet Express

2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado

2007-2008 Chevrolet Suburban

2007-2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevrolet Factory Service Bulletin OBDII Code P0507

What does this mean?

When is the code detected?

Thi P0507 code sets when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects an engine speed outside of the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve range of control.

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

- Engine hard to start

- Rough or erratic idle speed

P0507 Chevrolet Description

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controlled stepper motor located on the throttle body. The stepper motor drives a valve pintle which protrudes into a passage that bypasses the throttle plates. The PCM commands the IAC valve pintle to extend to decrease the idle speed. The bypass air flow is reduced and the idle speed decreases as the pintle approaches its seat. The PCM retracts the IAC valve pintle away from its seat to increase the idle speed. The retracting of the IAC valve pintle allows more air to bypass the throttle plates. One of the PCMs uses for the IAC system is to maintain a desired idle speed. This DTC sets when the PCM detects an engine speed outside of the IAC\'s range of control.

I have a 2007 z71 tahoe that dealership says needs to have to replace my throttle body sensor at it will cost me $750.00 or so to fix. Is that correct amount. Seems pretty high.

No it should't cost that much. Its just a sensor that unplugs and probably has 2 screws holding it in place. Go to Napa and buy one then pop the hood and look around until you find what looks like the part you just bought. Then replace it.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 5.3L will not start.

Depending on where you are checking the spark, orange may be rather weak. It should be white or blue.
If the plugs are dry and they have an orange spark, the coil may be going dead.

Code p0121 TPS

THERE IS A TP SENSOR BUILT INTO THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR. THESE TRUCKS HAVE BEEN KNOWN FOR A FEW PROBLEMS IN THIS AREA. THROTTLE ACTUATOR IS NOT SERVICEABLE. THE THROTTLE BODY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IF IT IS PROVEN FAULTY. THE APP SENSORS ARE LOCATED IN THE GAS PEDAL MODULE. THESE SEND SIGNAL TO COMPUTER TO TELL IT WHERE YOUR FOOT IS, THEN COMPUTER SENDS COMMAND TO THROTTLE ACTUATOR TO OPEN OR CLOSE THROTTLE BASED ON THIS INPUT. THE SENSOR IN THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR DELIVERS A MESSAGE BACK TO THE COMPUTER TO TELL IT WHAT THE ACTUAL THROTTLE POSITION IS. IF THESE SIGNALS DONT MATCH(WHERE THROTTLE IS COMMANDED AND WHERE IT ACTUALLY IS)THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE COULD GO INTO A REDUCED POWER MODE. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU!

Service Throttle Control

It sounds like these things are all related. When the a computer sees a problem in the Electronic throttle system, it will dissable traction control, and give the reduced engine power alert because the powertrain computer does not know the value of throttle postion.
Codes will need to be scanned in the computersto begin diagnosis.

Service engine soon light is on and when hooked up to the computer at auto zone it mentioned a knock sensor issue. Is this common? Also is this something easily changed? It is a 2002 Z71 with about...

The knock sensor is easily replaced. If you look below the passenger side exhaust manifold, you should see it sticking out of the side of the engine block. it'll have an electrical connector, that once unplugged, will allow you to unscrew the sensor from the engine block. I hope this helps.
