Door Latch will not engage

My 1997 VW Golf driver's side door will not latch closed. The lock will still engage if held shut, but is able to be pushed right open with little force.

It sounds like one of the door handles is not returning alowing the pawl to latch, Lubricate, the latch assembly, making sure you work the inner and outer door handles. Also roll the window all the way down, and look down through the slot to see if you can get some spray lube at the back side of the latch, if so lube again while working the handles. Spray the pivot pionts and sliders on the handles.

Hope this is of some help.

Drivers door will not latch closed

It appears that the door is not closing far enough for the latch to move to the second position in it's movement. ie on not closing the door properly you will see that it is latched but not closed . Push it harder and it closes properly. Lubricate the latch mechanism and you may have to adjust the catch position to allow the lock to go to the fully locked position POssible rubbers to cold and stiff to allow the door to close easily

Drivers side door wont latch shut on 97' Ford F150,HELP!

Ouch, this has happened to me before. Don't panic!, it's pretty easy to cure...for the moment. It's pretty likely what has happened is the latch has somehow been tripped, causing it to collide with the latch post (looks like a bolt with a round head on the door jam). Look at the latch itself, on the door, and be sure it isn't closed, it should have a bit of a gap to allow the latch to engage the post and trip the mechanism that causes it to lock, holding the door shut. IF the latch has been tripped, then you will need to make certain the door is unlocked, and pull the door release using the inside handle, and using a screwdriver or another practical item other than your finger, carefully try to push the tripped portion of the mechanism toward the car, so that it will release. It shouldn't take a huge amount of effort, if it hasn't been badly damaged. I hope this helps, and if you need video for clarification, I'll be happy to do so, just let me know. Good luck!

Drivers side door will not stay closed locked or unlocked.

Check the latch mechanism on the side of the door away from the hinge. The easiest way I can think of to do this is to push a large bolt (about the same size as the door latch pin on the frame) into the latch mechanism to simulate the door closing action. The latch should close over the bolt and not allow you to pull the bolt out in the door open direction unless you open the door handle.

If the latch works properly, check the door alignment to make sure it is actually engaging the pin.

My driver side door lock on 1997 Monte Carlo will not engage. Basicaaly can't close door. Help low on money.

There are small springs inside the door latch that can either break of fall off. You need to remove the door panel and repair/replace the latch mechanism

VW Golf 2002 central locking

this sounds like a stuck switch in the door lock assembly. it will make the locking system work like its got a mind of its own. The best fix is to first try cleaning the latch on the door it has a switch to tell the car if the latch is open/closed. Use an old tooth brush with some degreaser scrub the base of the latch on the door. After its cleaned up relube it with some white grease or dry graphite. Then try the lock again. If this doesn't solve it then the lock assembly has a faulty switch inside and replacement is the best option
