The starter may need to be freed up. Some mechanics will give it a tap with a hammer to get it unstuck, just a tap.

SOURCE: Car wont start.turn the key

you need to remove the battery cables and clean them fully,, tighten them once cleaned,, your alternator can't recharge the battery if the posts and connections are dirty , once you have them back on and tightened, put petroleum jelly on the posts and connections, this slows the corrosion process

I replaced starter on 1989 f150 5.0 now have no spark

Mike, Check for diagnostic codes. Check fuses/relays,wires/plugs for pinched, damage or corrosion. Could be a lot of things like distributor armature, cap, rotor, stator, ICM, coil, spark plugs, wires, make sure ground is good to distributor. Use the attached forum links, instruction, guides to help diagnose ignition spark problems, Good luck

I just replaced the a/c door actuator on 2002 tahoe. how do I reset it so it recognizes the positions? I disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes but this didn't do it.

Try this:
Alternate Method (w/o Scan Tool)

1. Clear all DTCs AND REMOVE THE SCAN TOOL.
2. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Remove the HVAC/BATT fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
4. Install the HVAC/BATT fuse.
5. Start the vehicle.
6. Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control head to self-calibrate.
7. Verify that no DTCs have set.

Hope this helps.

My 2002 jaguar x-type signal lights dont work and it goes dead while driving

Check the negative battery cable for corrosion. I would start by replacing it. Lots internal ground cable corrosion problems on the x-type. If you have a battery light on and the positive cable is very hot then you need to replace the pos. Cable also.

Engine will not turn over to start. new battery, spark plugs. car sat for about 6 months. put octane boost in with newgas and also used starter fluid near the fuel injectors.

Can you hear clicking or anything when you try to start it? If you hear clicking or grinding, you may just need a jump to boost amps if your starter is going out.If you hear nothing and you still have power to instrumentation and dummy lights, you may have a bad connection from the batt. to the starter. Before you go buy a new starter, try tapping on it with a small hammer on the solenoid.( the small round thing on the side of the starter) There is a magnet in there that sometimes gets hung up, especially if its dusty. Make sure that all connections are corrosion free on the battery as well as the starter. Don't forget the ground to the frame, as they can get corroded and/or loose too! Start with the batt. connection and work to the starter. Hope this helps!
