First locate your stater on your truck. Take the two bolts holding it on off, remove old starter, replace with new (taking care to watch how old one comes off) put new one in the same way old came off tighten two bolts holding it secure.

First thing you must do is disconnect the battery to prevent sparking. Before removing the starter you should find out the price and avalability of a rebuilt unit. Next pull the starter and take it with you to the store or rebuilder to compare for simalarity. But lets get back to removing the old starter. The starter is normally located on the passinger side of the car way down low and to the rear of the engine. It is bolted to the bell housing and has wires and a heavy cable attached to the front. First remove the wires after making sure you know where they go back on the new starter. Make a picture or do like I do take a digital photo to refer to if you get lost. Next undo the large bottom mounting bolt at the rear of the starter and than the top. The starter will dorp out in your hand.

Sorry I thought you were going to do it yourself. Most repair shops or trusted service station can switch out a starter for you. Good luck.

Disconnect the battery negative clamp. If you have enough clearance to get under the vehicle go under and find the cylinder shaped motor at the bottom back of the engine. It's about 8-10 inches long and 4 inches in diameter, has a couple wires connected to it. OK, with a socket wrench take out the 2 or three bolts that hold it to the front of the transmission. Remove. Disconnect the wires and note where they go. Take a photo. Reverse the sequence to install the new one.

1992 ford ranger 4cy new battery starter and relay and ignition switch starter just clicks and cables get super hot

Resistance problem in the circuit. Are the battery cable ends original? If so, they may need replacement. I have seen a lot of problems caused by the original cable ends Ford uses after they become old. If cable ends have been replaced at some point and time, you can try giving them a good clean where they fit on the battery. Another quick test is to turn on the headlights and see if they come on/are bright. If not, wiggle battery cables to see if they come on/get brighter. This can indicate a cable issue

Need a diagram of wiring for starter solenoid/1992/ford/ranger

Not much to the solenoid, but I'll attach a wiring schematic for 3.0 and 4.0. Be careful not to touch the two post together on the solenoid or it will start right up on you! One lead goes directly to the starter and the other goes to the positive lead on the battery. Good luck.

87 ford ranger wont start replaced pulugs and wires

Common Sense - tells you that replacing spark
plugs & wires, while they may be an issue, or due
to be replaced, they won't all fail at once & cause
a no start

You need to check for fuel pressure at the motor
with a gauge & check for spark or injector pulse, while
cranking the motor with the starter.

Compression has to be on all cylinders & any timing
belt or chain in place & working correctly

The clicking noise is coming from your starter or more specifically your solenoid on your starter. (It's attached right on the side of your starter.) If you can find a way to get to it, take something hard and tap on the solenoid and that will free it up. If that doesn't work try tapping it and the starter while someone else is turning the key. If it happens again it means that your starter is going out and you will have to replace it but that is easy enough so don't worry about it. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes. Goodluck!
