SOURCE: Long Crank times before starting

Sounds like it could be losing fuel pressure to the rail, try turning ignition on for 10s, then off then on then off then try start. That should make sure the pump has pressurised so will see if it is pressure.

SOURCE: My 1998 Land Rover Discovery

this sounds like a failing fuel pump, this would cause low fuel pressure and that would account for the chugging as u call it, if the fuel pump has over or near 100,000 miles it is very likely that it is the problem, the pump is located inside the gas tank, if u replace it also check the fuel pump connector for burned contacts and replace the fuel filter or the manufacturer won't honor the warranty.

The engine coolant remains on even though I have added two quarts of coolant. Also the sometimes the vehicle is cranking but not actually starting. what can be the problem? What does code p1111 mean?

Coolant temperature sensor controls the fuel metering. When one fails the engine is slow to start at first and there is a strong odor of gasoline. Turn it off and it starts right up. As the problem gets worse the engine may fail to start.

Does a water pump gasket problem lead to other gasket problems- such as intake or head gaskets/ and is it associated with having coolant loss issues?

If the low coolant from the water pump leaking has caused the engine to overheat, then the cylinder head(s) can warp and the head gasket(s) will leak also.

VSC light continues to come on and sometimes car has hard time starting

When you have fault lights on you must have the electronic control module tested for fault codes, that is the first step to ID the problem(s).

Sometimes the engine won't start even though the electrical system is working. Other times it starts right up. The local repair shop couldn't diagnose the problem. When it won't start, the ignition doesn't...

Can't remember the name for it but it is behind your ignition in your stearing column it is cylindrical in shape and sometimes these go they are fairly easy to do yourself. As you turn your key it turns this cylinder and sends power to your lights, radio, starter but if it goes then the power does not go to the starter. I had this problem myself and it finally when altogether. Check your local junk yard for a replacment part.

2000 GMC Sonoma will not start after standing serveral hours

Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, you should have 62 to 65 PSI when the fuel system is primed. (engine not running) With the engine started and running the pressure should drop by 5 PSI, anything less then 62 PSI in your fuel system when trying to start the engine will cause a no start. Note; that try to start a the engine by pouring gas through the throttle body may cause an internal fire in the intake ports and will cause the fuel injectors to melt creating a more expensive problem. As for the fuel pump in the gas tank, it''s held on by and snap ring which you can remove with a simple screw driver. Good luck and keep me posted, and don't for get to replace the wire harness from the frame to the gas tank. It's a $12.00 investment that's worth more then it's cost.

My sebring sometimes won't start even though it

Sounds like a faulty fuel pump. Next time it doesn't start have someone listen with their head right above the gas tank. When you turn the key to "on" pos, without trying to turn it over, they should be able to hear the pump spin.
