Question about 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 2WD

1 Answer

I am getting Misfire Codes P0300, P0304, P0306 and a P0420

The van seems to idle fine and sounds ok when I push the gas down but runs real rough under load. I put a new cap, rotor and wires on about 8-9 months ago and haven't had a problem until a couple days ago. My first thought was that the wires from 4 and 6 were shorting each other but they look good. The P0420 would indicate a possible bad CAT but it could also be a symptom of the misfire. I am lost.

It's got about 156K and I did forget to mention that I put new plugs in when I did the rest.

Do not dress the spark plug wires to make them look pretty. The spark plug wires on must cross each other at right angles every place they cross. They cannot be run side by side, or the engine will crossfire.

SOURCE: #8 misfire

With the truck running, spray some water with a spray bottle on the wires and cap, also spray the coil. See if you can make it misfire by doing this. It may help to have a helper in the truck with it idling in gear. You may hav egotten a bad wire or plug, too. I find these run pretty decent with the Champions like they came with.

SOURCE: getting a code P0304 on my 1999 Dodge 1500 5.2L.

the code that is given means that the coil, plug ,plug wires, for that cylinder could be bad, check spark plug and see if this is the problem or a bad wire.

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.

I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

Did you change the plugs in it, In That old of a truck depending on the miles on ot , If i had it i would be putting on a new cap and rotor, Not trying to clean it up, Allso it could be the control mudle breaking down, If it was never change, There could be a problem with the fuel (Injecters) Or throtle body.
