Question about 2006 Kia Rio

Gauges move when stopped

Check engine light was on but car running fine. My father in law suggested that I put Non Ethanol gas in my take. After I filled up whenever I was stopped at a light my gauges would go crazy and my brake light would come on, however the check engine light went off as soon as I filled up. When I got to work I put the car in park and waited to see if it still would act up and it didn't. Gauges and brake light would only come on when car was in drive and at a stop. Any ideas?????

Sounds like it could have a weak alternator. In gear the idle is always lower than in park. A low voltage situation could cause the gagues to act up

replace your gas cap and clear codes, then wait and see if light comes back on, if it does you have a more serious problem like a fuel tank leak or a defective fuel tank pressure sensor.

I have a 2000 jaguar s type and my car runs good but every once in a while at a stop light it just shuts off. The check engine light comes on sometimes? Any idea as to why the car just dies.

Likely, it is fuel contamination caused by use of ethanol blend fuels over time. I'd recommend replacing all fuel in the system with new (preferably non-ethanol fuel if available). If you must use ethanol blend fuel, add WATER REMOVER additive monthly.
Also, replace the fuel filter and check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator.

While I'm driving out of no where the truck starts shaking really loud i'll put the vehicle in park then give it some gas then it stops... Or if it's under half tank it shakes more often.

You are having issues directly correlating with CONTAMINATED FUEL. Have the fuel tank flushed if possible. Replace ALL FUEL in the vehicle, and replace the FUEL FILTER. Have the fuel system checked for proper pressure at the fuel rail, and replace the fuel pressure regulator, fuel intake strainer, and the fuel pump if necessary.
The Lincoln Navigator does not do well with ethanol fuel blends. I recommend using non-ethanol fuel, or use a water remover additive if non-ethanol fuel is not available.

You need to put a lot of ethanol in it to get rid of the water. Also the water might have caused problems with the cat or the oxy sensors. Ethanol comes in products like HEET.

There has been a rash of 60% Ethanol gas in my area lately which has caused the same problems. Gas should only contain 10% Ethanol max. You may want to run it out of gas or drain the tank. May also be a dirty fuel filter.

How do you check if altenator is charging battery,

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.

I have a 1997 neon,it runs but won't idle.any suggestions?

You may have a plugged catalytic converter. When you are on the gas, the engine is basically forcing the air through, but at idle and much lower exhaust pressure, the gas pressure builds up and suffocates the engine.

It should cost around $10 to take it to a shop where they will test it for you. They drill a small hole BEFORE and then AFTER the cat and use a gauge to measure the PSI of airflow. They then weld the 2 small holes shut.

I had this happen to me with my 1995 Neon. It was very confusing until my father suggested I try the "cat" solution. Pretty neat!

Hope this cures it for ya. btw- a new "cat" should run around $200 installed.
