Question about 1996 Buick Roadmaster

P1870 code in a 4t65e transmission

I had very minimal slippage with the P1870 code. Does this mean a TOTAL REBUILD of my transmission or just the replacing the sticking valve?

I would start with a tranny flush and filter change.

yes- the computer is picking up a problem in the transmission [which has about 20+ codes of its own]trans fluid is a reddish burgundy color like power steering fluid when brown means burnt something slipping-or overheating- or clogged filter -change fluid and filter can b an easy fix if caught in time

I have a 1999 blazer I pulled the code p1870 if I change the control solenoid could that fix the problem?

Here is the definition of the code.
I doubt replacing an electrical component would do it.

My 1997pontiac sunfire has a p1870 trouble code

This Code is to indicate transmission slippage. It has been 9 years since it was rebuilt and the original only lasted 6 years. Your may be getting an accurate Warning code from this problem.

About the only thing you could try is a new filter and fluid. Possibly the condition of those 2 items could interfere with the trans pressure.

Got 99 chevy suburban. I got a p1870 code. dont know if its some thing I can fix or shoud take to shop.

the code means that transmission slippage was detcted over consecutive cycles(turing car on and off) it should try to compensate for the slippage so veh remains drivable. if 40 cycles have no problems detected it will reset its self. since the reason its slipping is an unkown, i would bring it to a transmission shop for hopefully free diag to determine the problem. hopefully its nothing or just a solonoid. If you have noticed any unusual trany behavior you could descibe, it may help with a possible internet diag. most home mechanics (myself included in most cases) leave transmission repairs to the pros, but this may depend on your comfort level. i always find that finding the problem is the hardest part or any repair.

I have a p1870 code on my 1996 odlsmobile cutlass supreme and don't know what is the problem.

ok p1870 is a general code for most gm vehicle indicating a problem with the manufacturer controlled transmision and the only people that have the computer to connect to the tranny computer is a dealer or tranny shop i have the same code in my 96 pontiac for detecting a slippage in the overdrive gear.

Code P1870 What is P1870

The code description for P1870 is "transmission component slipping" and usually means that the computer has detected a difference between what the input speed is and output shaft speed should be under certain conditions and tagged it as a slipping component. Usually it means that a clutch pack [usually direct drive clutch] or band isn't holding under a load and has started to slip. Sometimes the slippage can be observed on a scan tool during a road test but if the slippage is bad enough it may be noticable just driving it. Low transmission fluid level could cause this problem so make sure you check it before going any further. If it turns out that there is interal slippage then the transmission would have to come out and be repaired.

1996 chevrolet monte carlo i feel no trans slipage. yet getting p1870 01 code

Just because you cant feel in doesn't mean it isn't slipping. The computer monitors input rotation speed and output rotation speed of the transmission. If the output isn't within a certain range the computer stores this code. The only reason for this is transmission slipping and will require a rebuild.
