You will need to do some testing to determine what your problem is. I recommend a code check first (otherwise, turing testing you may generate a set of codes related to what you disconnected) After code check, If you still have no information, do basic tests: Is charging system and battery working? is there spark coming from the coil? is it getting to the spark plugs? Is there fuel? Then check sub-systems related to what you find. A common cause of shut down while driving is the crankshaft sensor. There are tests for this and other items in nearly every repair manual. If you don't have one, get one. It will help you avoid wasting time and $ on stuff you don't need.

The systems etc. are shutting down because the engine has died.Steering is heavy because all the vacuum assist has stopped.i.e. power steering. Why the engine is stopping is the main concern.Fuel,electrical.Its very hard to tell without some more info on how the motor is playing up.After a few stabs on the brakes I bet they go hard as well.(no power assist).A dealer can plug in the diagnostic and tell because it will have a memory of a problem that occured.Sorry I could not help you further

try leaving the main gearshift in neutral and shut the car off , then try and move the lever to four wheel drive. or maybe try to switch it while slowly backing up. most likely since its hardly ever used it just might be stuck from non use. if neither of those ideas fix it. call the dodge dealership and ask to talk to a mechanic in the service department, they might be able to help, call them first before you take it in$$$..
