Wheels tightening when driving

Vehicle driving smooth but after a distance the wheels starting tightening and holding vehicle back. any solution?

Sounds as dragging brakes. Feel after driving a bit all four wheels if one or more are hot. If it is only one wheel, then probably the caliper is seized( the sliding pins need to be lubricated at regular intervals, or the pins will rust and seize the caliper, making it hard to release the brake).
if all wheels are hot, then the problem could be with the master cylinder.

    If the calipers aren't seized, the problem could also be in the flex brake hoses on the front. Take them aff one at a time and try blowing through them. If you get little/no air through them then they are collapsed from the inside. You should replace both sides if this is the case. Hope this helps.

I'm not absolutely sure on the tire size for the jeep itself, but I think they are 225/65/R15's. Not absolutely sure.

As for the noise, from your explanation, it sounds like the transfer case is under a heavy bind. Take it off of the road in some grass or dirt and then move it forward a few feet then simply hit reverse. Don't move much maybe an inch and it may release the bind. Once you get the bind off the transfer case, it should slip out of 4wd, unless there is damage in the case/shifter itself.

When operating four wheel drives, with tires of different sizes it causes extreme stress on the gearing in the transfer case. Larger tires don't turn the axles as much as smaller tires. So, this causes stress in the driveline as the front is actually turning slower then the rear. In turn, this will put so much pressure on the gears that it could cause damage and the shifting mechanism will not work correctly to pull it out of 4wd engagement.

Try those ideas, and see if you can get it out of 4WD. Definitely put four tires on the jeep that are all the same size. This will keep you from having excessive stress on the transfer case and gearing therein.

SOURCE: 99 jeep grand cherokee limited, have no 4wd. fluid

If it was ever towed with the wheels on the ground (not dollied) then the transfer case is probably "burned out" and you will need to replace it. These models of jeeps are full time 4WD and MUST be dollied or towed on a carrier or rollback type truck. Unless they have manual locking hubs.

If any of four abs sensors is not working then abs light comes up and subsequently affects car's stability (esp). OBD diagnostic scanner will find out that which sensor is causing it. If all sensors are fine then most probably there is a problem with your abs/esp unit in engine bay.

what makes you thing the tires/wheels tighten (felt by hand off ground?)
my guess , you meant it seems. like???
1: lost engine power?
2: transmission not up shifting?

is this a auto A/T or manual M/T tranny,
if A/T , you need to look at the engine RPM when you lose
power (acceleration on demand)

RPM rises, car dont move faster ,this is tranny slip.
RPM fails to increase, and speed, up hills. this is called lost engine power.
lost engine power can be caused by , bad spark (tuneups skipped?)
or weak fueling.
weak fueling too can be cause by skipping the fuel filter step in the tune up list.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
Purpose Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) - generally also referred to as anti-lock
systems (ALS) - are designed to prevent the vehicle wheels from locking
as a result of the service brake being applied with too much force, especially
on slippery road surfaces.
The idea is to maintain cornering forces on braked wheels to ensure that
the vehicle or vehicle combination retains its driving stability and manoeuvrability
as far as physically possible. The available power transmission
or grip between tyres and carriageway should also be utilised as
far as possible to minimise the braking distance and maximise vehicle
deceleration.
Why ABS? Although today commercial vehicle brakes are designed to a very high
technical standard, braking on slippery roads often results in potentially

Abs light is on . brakes work just fine and the fluid is full


Hello, lets test that BMW M5 ABS braking system, OK. First, drive down a street with no traffic. Speed up to 30 to 40 MPH. Then slam on your brakes hard, if the brake petal is pulsating and there a noise like clunk,clunk,clunk,clunk noise. Your BMW ABS is working. If not, then the BMW ABS isn't working.


ABS system and what it does to your BMW. All it amount to is it doesn't lock up the braking system. It just applied the brake and release in micro seconds. This keep the vehicle from sliding side ways on wet roads, snowy roads, icy roads or even on dry roads. In other words, it keeps the front of the BMW in a straight line.

You will have to look under the vehicle to see if there is a driveshaft running out from the transmission, towards the front of the truck, to the front axle. If no front drive shaft, then no 4WD.

How do you take the rear wheels off of the 2004 dodge ram 1500


hi, if just taking the rear wheels off the vehicle, you will need a hydraulic jack, or vehicle lift of some kind, jack stands to place under the vehicle if you are using the hydraulic jack. You will also need either a 4 way tire iron, or some combination of a 7/8 in socket and a 1/2 in drive breaker bar, the socket needs to be 1/2 in drive as well. this tools maybe rented from local auto parts stores if you do not have availible. now, the lug nuts(the nuts holding the wheels on) may not be 7/8 inch size, depending on the rim package you have, there will be only five of course though. before you jack up the vehicle, you must break the lug nuts loose. take either the 4-way tire iron, or the breaker bar and use a lot of force and turn counter clockwise with the wheels on the ground, and the vehicle in park, with the parking brake on. break all five lug nuts loose(able to turn easily, by hand if desired) on both sides. then you must locate the vehicle frame underneath, and use the jack on the frame point only, never on the axleshaft or body part, and jack up one side of the vehicle until the wheel hangs freely, and place a jackstand next to the hydrualic jack close to touching the frame. lower the vehicle onto the jackstand and make sure the wheel will hang freely. repeat on the other side until both sides, wheels are hanging freely. then remove the lug nuts with either the tire iron, socket and breaker bar, or by hand. once all lug nuts are reomved, pull the wheels off. that should just about do it, hope i didn't leave anthing out, if putting back on, reverse steps, but hand tighten clockwise until tight against the studs, then lower the vehicle down and tighen each lug nut in a star fashion. make sure to tighten very well, you don't want the rims to fall off while driving. good luck.

i have seen this many times on VW passats which are on the same platform. You may need a new abs control unit. if the abs control unit cannot be scanned by a computer, check all fuses. if abs contol unit is needed, there is aftermarket places that can rebuild them, i recommend factory unit.
