Question about 2005 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

My 2005 sonata starts after trying several times. It just turns over like a car out of gas, then usually on the third time it will start.

Sounds like its either fuel or ignition. Have someone turn the car over while you sniff the exhaust.
If it smells of raw unburnt gas , fuel is not the issue , your problem is most likely ingition. Car might run rough at first when it does start , due to being slightly flooded.
If no gas smell probably a fuel problem. Possible low fuel pressure , or no fuel injection.

My 2005 dodge stratus set for about a month and a half without periodically starting it. I'm ready to start driving it again and it wont start. It has gas.it wants to start and will turn over but wont

Are you mechanically inclined?
Here are a couple things to try:
1. Turn the key to ON (don't crank the engine
then OFF and back ON - several times.
this will pulse the fuel pump several times to charge the fuel rail.
then try to start.
2. If it doesn't catch/start right away - hold the throttle to the floor while cranking. This will put the Computer in "Start Flooded Engine" mode and turn OFF the fuel injectors.
If those things don't work - some serious diagnostics will be in order - let me know how this works :)

The charcoal filter down behind the rear tire by the fuel cap is plugged up. This is a very very common problem on the Sonata. I am very surprised that they have not recalled this. But that is going to be your problem.

Timing belt replacement interval

My rule of thumb for Timing belts:
replace at 60,000 miles, and every 40,000 miles thereafter. Having said that, I often let
cars go until the timing belt starts showing signs of wear (usually every 50K - 75K miles)

But www.autozone.com (register free at www.autozone.com) is recommending for your
car driving in "severe driving conditions" (aka normal stop-start driving) that your 2000 Sonata
have:
60,000 miles - replace
90,000 miles - inspect for wear
120,000 miles - replace
150,000 miles - inspect for wear

The 155 page owners manual (I found one at the link below - you may prefer to try Hyundai)
makes no mention of the timing belt at all.

2005 Chevy Malibu starting problem

Sounds to me like you should check your battery and connections to it. Maybe they are dirty or corroded- not allowing full amperage to start your car or recharge the battery fully.

Just a relatively easy check and usually a no- cost fix!!!
Hope this helps you out!!
