Not recommended, manufacturers know what power each circuit is designed for and they are a lot smarter than me, by changing the fuse you may over load another wire you can't see and cause a fire

Does all the fuses in a 1987 Ford pickup have to be the exact amperage that is called for in the owners manual?

No they do not have to be the same, However I would suggest not using a lower Amp fuse Example I would not replace a 15 amp fuse with a 10 amp fuse however it is ok to use a bit higher fuse like a 20 amp fuse instead of a 15 amp fuse, I hope this helps.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer, gauge fuse keeps blowing. Have replaced the fuse twice, first time it was fine for a week but now it blows after a few minutes of driving...anysuggestionso

I would normally say to replace with a higher amp fuse, from a 15 to a 20. But it's possible you have a short somewhere in your system, grounding a power wire. A higher amp fuse could cause that grounded wire to overheat and burn making smoke. First thing to do is to check the ground wire(white)where connected to the firewall under dash and make sure they are clean and tight, for a good connection. The power may be backfeeding and causing the fuse to pop because of a week ground.

What number fuse do I replace to make the wipper

The fuses are color coded and have the amp rating on them (5,10,15 and 25). the fuse block panel should have the amp number shown in the diagram and location of that fuse.

Do not put a higher valued fuse in place of the the one you are replacing. That will allow the wires to over heat and burn up possibly causing a fire in your car.

What would cause the fuel pump fuse to blow out when driving ?

Fuses can burn or blow out because any of the following reason:
1. Amp of the fuse is to low for the job it is doing.
Replace it with a Higher Amp fuse.
2. Possible short in the wiring connection.
Check the wiring and replace it if needed.

Thanks for allowing my in-put.

My wiper fuse on my transit keeps blowing when on intermediate

To blow the fuse it has to be drawing a higher current. Are you using the correct AMP for the wipers? I would try lifting the wipers off the windscreen and see if the fuse still blow (less friction) if it still blows the problem is the motor could be on its way out or they mechanisms are "sticky" if they work fine then replace the blades and give the windscreen a good clean. You could (at some minimal risk) put a fuse in with +5 AMP higher than recommended.

Can i replace a 40 amp fuse with a 45 amp fuse in a nissan micra

No its never better to use a higher amp fuse because the system was designed to use a 40 amp fues.If you put a 45 in it, It will subject the system to 45 amps which it was'nt made for.

I have a 1999 Buick LeSabre and the power windows will not work

If none of your windows work, then I'd suggest checking the fuse.  Check your owners manual for the location.  Replace it if blown with the same amp fuse, DO NOT use a higher amp fuse!
