SOURCE: 2003 Mercedes Benz E500

There is a valve that is located between engine and firewall. I fixed it myself with help from benzworld.org. It seems to be a common problem with this model and the new valve has a slightly different part number and is supposed to be better. It took about 1 hr. you have to take a few parts off to get to the valve, but if you can handle basic tools, it should be ok. there are great step by step pics on the benz site. part is about $40 at dealer. good luck!

Yes, you have what is called a short to voltage or short to ground. the wiring between the controls and the mirror have a nick, cut or gouge and they are touching where they shouldn't be.

Sounds like your thermostat is on it's way out. Do a good cooling system flush then replace thermostat.

1997 E350 Eldorado bus passenger heater blowing cold air

There is a separate heater core, like a small radiator, which needs hot water running through it, so when the air blows over it, the air gets hot. It sounds like the diverter valve which sends the hot water to this heater core is not working. It could be a problem with the valve itself, or the relay or switch that controls it, or the vacuum line or device that opens the valve when the switch or relay tells it to open.

The actuator for the door that switches, the blend dorr sounds to be problem, although at times the actual door can be problem.if it is binding this would cause the same sound. This is a a complicated job if it is the door, not so much if it is actuator.

Temperature gauge fluctuates and the heater blows cold air

Definitely check your fluid level in your radiator. Top it off all the way. I've seen that happen multiple times on cars that were low on anti-freeze. If that doesn't work try replacing your thermostat. It's cheap and the easiest place to start if topping off the fluid doesn't get you fixed up.

first check and see if it has a thermstat installed or stuck open, second, make sure that your heater has not been bypassed by connecting the two hoses together
