Question about 2000 Cadillac Seville

2000 cadillac seville sts- it is overheating only when I drive it. Changed the water pump, two therosdats and flushed it three times. Then I put block seal it. but no luck still overheats when I drive it. Do you think its a cracked head? or something else?

    I had the same problem with my 1998 4.6 Northstar STS. After having my GM dealer replace the water pump and flush the radiator and heater core 2 times, the radiator blew. This cost another $700. I spent all of 2008 chasing the coolant problems (all with my local GM dealer) when it was most likely that the head gaskets failed or were in the process of failing. It is very likely that my GM dealer miss-diagnosed the head failure and this is what blew out the radiator. Pressure from the pistons blowing past the compromised gaskets caused the radiator to break where at its (weakest point) as the radiator is part plastic and part aluminum. I had the engine completely rebuilt and I now have a strong, smooth running Northstar with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty. It is hard to do this repair yourself as according to GM, there are special ($700) tools required. My GM dealer would not offer a guaranty with the head repair. Mine is now running better than it ever has and the rebuild does not require stop-leak any more. The car does not use a quart of oil every 800 to 1000 miles anymore, I have had the car back for two months now and it hasn't used a drop of oil. It doesn't leave puddles on the floor anymore either.     Pressure check it. If you ran it hot at one time it may be the head gaskets or head-bolt problem.

    Are you sure the water is moving in the engine to rad? Sounds like an air pocket. If you had a cracked head, you would notice water under the car and water in your oil. Look under the oil fil cap and see if it has a white foam build up on it. With the engine running, and the rad cap off, do you see bubbles in the water? One or two is ok, alot is a problem. Is the fins on the rad clear? Missing fins will over heat the car also. If the car has AC check the fins on the conds. Its the rad in front of the cooling rad.

Check to see if cooling fans are working. if not replace fans or fan sensor. check oil. if there is coolant in the oil, you may have a cracked head or a defective head gasket.

A blown head gasket or intake gasket does not always put coolant into the oil or produce smoke.. If the gasket blew between an oil vein and coolant vein then there is a possibility that your actually pushing the oil into the coolant side.. When the car is cool... look at your antifreeze and see if it has the oil slick look to it.. That being said it could be a head gasket or it could be in the intake as well..

i would have to say ck. the easast things first,when was the last cooling system flush making sure all cooling system parts are clean and new coolant added(old coolant looses its abilaty to work properly when old)then have the thermostat ck to make sure it opens and closes at the proper temp.

Check with the auto parts store to see if they both have the same part no's. It's quite possible they are the same.

How do i take my water pump belt off my 2000 cadillac seville sts?


There is an idler pulley that is spring loaded, it has a 1/2 square cutout that you insert a 1/2' drive rachet into and push it away from the center of the engine to remove enough tension from the belt to remove it. To install there is a diagram under the hood showing you how to re-thread the new belt.

you dont need a video. take the cover off and remove the bolts. if it takes longer than 5 minutes, you arent doing it right.

RADIATOR.


remove radiator and power wash fins they could be blocked then install again then get a good engine flush drain water then refill with flush and water then start and drive read the flush bottle for instructions then let all out again then refil with clean water and a good coolant , remember to blead the system when filling every time you drain water etc, hope this helps. it will work.

your fuel pump has failed from overheating, the pump is cooled by the gas it runs in, when u run out of gas or low on fuel many times this destroys the pump,replace the fuel pump.

you have no fuel pressure, when u ran out of gas u overheated the fuel pump in the tank, now it is stuck and won't start running, very common problem after running out of gas, replace the fuel pump.
