Question about 1993 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

My truck is stuck in 4 high

I was told that it might have something to do with the linkage. I have no clue what that is or how to fix it. I have done most of the repairs myself. Im just not sure about this. I've had poeple tell me just take it to a shop but, I feel I need to prove a point. That a girl can fix up a truck too. Please help me!!

First try backing truck up about 10ft put the transmission in neutral and try shifting into 2 wheel drive. (if this is not working use step 2)
2.(With truck OFF)
Well then first you have to go under the truck and look for the shifting arm coming out of the floor look on drivers side of transmission in between transmission and floor. You should see a lever or linkage going back to transfer case Spray with W-D40 or some kind of penetrate spray on everything that can be sprayed. I had that problem I had to use my leg to push the lever forward to get it back to 2 wheel drive. After spraying the whole leakage down with WD-40 start truck try working shifter back and forth it might take a little bit to get it to move.

Sounds as if you have either bent the throttle linkage or there is something jammed in it holding the throttle open . I would look the motor and carb area over.

Hello there,
Well, I dont think much about the competence of your 'goodyear' people. Fat lot of experts they were !!! I hope they didn't charge you.

Lots of people get this code. Looks like this item needs to be changed, repaired or at least tested.

One answer I found is

'Code stands for Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck Open (Bank 1). Make sure it is not stuck and none of the linkage is binding. Try manually opening and closing it.'

You may be able to stop and start the car in neutral using the parking brake. I'm not sure on the 2004. I would check the linkage and linkage cable first. It may be a much easier fix than you think. What gear does the indicator show you and is the shifter on the floor or on the column? I would still try to have someone go under the car and see if they can move the linkage manually to park.

Did you look underneath to see if you broke anything? If the linkage is still connected and moving then the problem is internal and can only be repaired by removing the transfer case and dismantling it.

Sounds like you broke the linkage. I'd get down there, and manually put it in 2WD by you activating the linkage from where it's snapped, it's a bad idea to drive anywhere but on the mud if 4wd, if the axles turn at different speeds, it could snap a driveshaft, or worse, the differential.

A/c motor problem

One of the blend door motors on the A/C Heater assembly may be stuck or defective or one of the linkage arms may have fallen off.Slide under the dash a bit and slide the temperature button.
You may have to take a panel or two off above the passenger/drivers feet area.
Can you see any movement on any linkage or locate the noise at one of the blend door motors?
You might just see a linkage arm off and you may be able to reattach it.
