I just bought a chrysler concorde 2003 limited edition and the car is not driveable at all. When the coolant is filled and the car is idling with the Airconditioner ON everything seems to be normal at first. The temperature needle reaches a step below half and stays there. Just after 5 minutes the coolant starts spraying out from the coolant bottle and the temperature needle goes to red in a second. We tried to fill the coolant again but to no avail ( same result ). What could be the problem with this lemon that i just bought???????
2004 Chrysler Concorde LXI 3.5lt engine. with new radiator, water pump, radiator cap, thermostat, and bled properly. Also dye test performed on heads and block, no problem there is still overheating. What do I do next? Tired of process of elimination really costing way too much to figure out. Bought the car new, for 4 yrs everything was fine and all of a sudden started running hot. There is no oil in water, or water in the oil.
You probably already fixed this but I just had the same problem and it was the radiator fan. One side had burnt out and I needed to replace the whole unit. Got it at a wreckers for $85 and it took about 10 minutes for my mechanic to put it on.
The resovoir hold pressure its not uncommon to find them like that .. but before it overheats put your hand on the upper and lower radiator hoses and feel for them to be flowing ... i guess if they are different its a thermostat...not opening after 180 f ...

I will try what you said maygemini but in the worst possible case, could it be the head gasket. Can the head gasket be damaged by overheating only once????? Infact i bought the car and started driving it on the highway at 60-70 MPH. All this time the heat needle was just normal ( below half ). Suddenly i smelled something burning and immediately pulled my car over. On opening the bonnet there was lots of smoke from burning oil spilled over the right side compartment of the engine ( most probably from near the dipstick area as there was excess of oil in the engine ). Until the car stopped, the heat needle remained at step 2 ( less thn half ) and i never saw it over heating. The car was towed to the nearby mechanic and the engine was over hauled completely ( radiator hoses, timing belt, oil seals A/C gas etc. ).
The condition that i mentioned earlier appeared after the over haul. The reason for the car stopping on the highway according to the mechanic was a leaking radiator hose and no water at all in the reservoir ( although i did not notice any increase in the temperature of the car). The above explanation may give you a better idea about my problem.
