99 GMC Sierra headlights & running lights won't work!


Headlights Circuit Description
The headlights are controlled by the body control module (BCM) via the AHL Relay when the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is the AUTO position. When in the AUTO mode, the BCM receives a signal, (voltage) from the ambient light sensor, based on the voltage of the signal of n the sensor the BCM turns the day time running lamp (DRL) lights OFF and the headlights ON. The headlights can also be turned on by placing the headlamp and panel dimmer switch in the head position.
The relay coil is fed by the headlamp and panel dimmer switch or the BCM and the battery B+ buss bar in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC). The BCM supplies current to the relay based on the input from the ambient light sensor via CKT 352.
The relay output feeds the LT HDLP and RT HDLP fuses to supply current to the low and high beam lamps on CKT 1340 and CKT 1240. The ground for both the low and high beam lamps is supplied via CKT 524 and CKT 525 to the dimmer switch. The dimmer switch uses CKT 1850 for a ground to G203.
Some circuits are monitored by the BCM, and upon failure may set a DTC.
Park/Side Marker and Tail Lamps
The park/side marker and tail lamps are split between the following 4 fuses:

These fuses receive voltage from the park lamp relay. When the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is in the auto position, the body control module (BCM) controls the relay by grounding CKT 1080 based on the input of the ambient light sensor. The park LPS fuse supplies battery positive voltage (B+) to the relay at all times.
When the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is in the PARK position, the relay is by passed through the INT PRK fuse. Current flows from the PARK LPS fuse through the headlamp and panel dimmer switch to the INT PRK fuse in order to feed the following fuses:

Why don't lights work?


Both the headlight switch and the BCM provide a ground, or control circuit, to the headlight relay coil circuit for manual or automatic headlamp operation. When you place the headlamp switch in the OFF position, and the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions, the BCM energizes the headlamp relay for low beam operation. You may switch the headlights to high beam by pulling the dimmer switch handle toward you until the dimmer switch is activated. When the dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, the indicator lamp input to the BCM is pulled low. The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the instrument cluster in order to illuminate the high beam indicator lamp.

No relay that I know of.
The power comes from the headlight switch into the dimmer switch.

I have a 00 ford explorer I have low beam no high beam I replace the bulbs and the dimmer switch I still don't have high beam why?


Normally, a relay switches the lamps between high and low beams; the dimmer switch controls the relay.
Check relay/fuse center covers for a legend describing the functions of the relays present.
Empty positions are normal and provided for accessories.

Many of the relays will bear the same part number so if you can locate the layout legend and find the headlight relay, exchange it with another of the same type to check the suspected one for function.

Low beams not working but high beams are on a 2000 chevy metro


The headlight relay provides power to the dimmer relay, then power goes thru a fuse for each light for each circuit (4). The low beam fuses are in fuse block 2. The dimmer relay is controlled by the daytime running light module. The headlight and dimmer switches send signals to the DRL module. You may need a shop manual to troubleshoot the circuits.

you need to check the high beam relay located in the underhood fuse box .locate it and switch it with another relay of the same type .your owners manual should tell you where this relay is located .GOOD LUCK!!

Headlight dimmer relay location on a 1998 camry


If the headlights work, the headlight relay is good, if the high beams dont work, either both bulbs are bad, or the combination switch is bad. I dont think there is a dimmer relay.

Where is the headlight relay switch located


doesn't show a relay, just a headlight switch and dimmer switch, the headlight switch has an internal curcuit breaker so if something shorts it want let power out to the dimmer switch. hope this helps.

Where is the headlight relay located? There are six relays located on the fire wall below the fuses, but none of them are the headlight relay. I lost both low beams, there's power coming from the fuse but...


Headloght switch or dimmer HI-Lo switch is what I would look at. The power to the headlights goes through the dimmer switch before it gets to the bulbs. No relay!
