The first thing i'd tell you is to not run the engine at all before fixing this if possible. Diesel fuel doesn't burn very good in a gasoline engine, if at all... There is not enough compression in a gas engine to get the diesel hot enough to burn, even with a spark plug.

There is a few ways to go about this but the easiest one is to find and disconnect the line coming from the gas tank to the engine, as close to the fuel pump as possible (preferably before the filter) and route it to an empty container, then jump 12V to the fuel pump motor terminals, or jump the fuel pump relay terminals (to get the pump running) and let it pump the diesel fuel out in the container...

As a precaution I'd change the fuel filter after this, fill the tank back up with clean gasoline, and give the car a good run... You can expect the engine to smoke and run bad for a little while, as there will still be a little diesel going through.

As for the cost to get it done, I really couldn't give you a straight answer... They could do it like I said or another way (drop the gas tank...) It's not that hard to do if you do it yourself or find someone you know who can do it or a good "backyard" mechanic, but I'm sure some of the shops out there could write up a nice repair bill for this...

In most gasoline engines diesel fuel will not damage anything. you may have performance issues (such as slower acceleration or reduced power) this is only because Diesel fuel burns slower.

As for expensive to be remedied, if your car starts and runs, all you have to do is drive it :-) diesel fuel has oil in it as well, this will help lubricate your engine. but because of this oil you may see black or blue smoke coming out of your tailpipe. add the fuel you need for your vehicle as you empty the tank, that will help.

Do not use diesel again, it will not harm your vehicle, but it is hazardous to environment, bad emissions, most likely power loss, and burning oil is not the best thing for your catalytic converter.

for any readers: NEVER put REGULAR FUEL in a DIESEL ENGINE you will have many issues : pre-ignition, knock, worn engine and fuel delivery components, damaged pistons, damaged glow plugs ... the list goes on!

PS - If you are worried about your car, siphon the diesel fuel out and sell it to someone for half price or something like that. tank up with regular and ur good to go :-)

Diesel fuel is actually an oil, in
fact, almost exactly the same as home heating oil. And diesel has a
much higher flash point, the point when a fuel ignites, than gasoline
which is what makes it perfect for diesels.

So if you put, say one gallon of diesel
fuel in a 13 gallon tank, you wouldn't even notice it. If you put one
gallon of diesel fuel in a five gallon tank, you will notice a bluish
colored smoke coming from the exhaust.

If you put four gallons of diesel in a
five gallon tank, at the worst the engine will not run. If it does, it
will run very rough, be blowing blue smoke and doing a damn fine job of
    carbon fouling the spark plugs.

I put wrong fuel into Nissan Vanetta cargo 2.3.d 1997. How to empty the fuel tank? How to replace the fuel filter?

If you put petrol in a diesel car if less than 50/50 no harm will come to the engine but the electronic sensor sensing the grade of fuel may complain. If you cannot drive until more diesel can be added, get your mechanic to loosen the feed from the fuel line at the High Pressure pump end, power the low pressure pump and that will empty the fuel tank. The fuel filter will not be harmed, just sparkly clean, like new.

What do you do if you put 6 litres of petrol into a deisel tank

you have to empty the tank as much as possible ( empty is best) and refill with diesel.
Depending on the quantity of diesel in the tank when the error occurred you may get a dilution to a point where it will not noticeably affect the engine, but totally empty the tank is the best option ,especially if the vehicle is still under warranty

I mistakingly put some diesel in my petrol swift

You don't say how much diesel you put in or how much petrol was in tank in the first place. If the amount of diesel is less than 5 % of the total then you may try filling tank with petrol and keep topping up to dilute the diesel. The best fix would be to drain fuel tank completly and refill with petrol. If tank has a drainplug , this will be easy but if no drain plug you will have to remove tank from vehicle to empty it.

Water in gas line in a chevy cobalt 05 what to do car shuts off and shakes

How do you know there is water in fuel tank??

If there isnt much water, simply empty 1-2 litres of METHS into the tank.

If there is more than say a litre, then you will have to drain the tank as water sits under the petrol / diesel.

I have put 8 litres of diesel in my 2005 renault scenic i have topped it up with 25 litres of petrol and run it for about 20 miles so far will this be ok once the the tank is empty

The 8 liters of diesel mixed with the 25 liters will make the vehicle smoke a little but if you continue to dilute the diesel/petrol mixture with petrol as your tank level goes down you should have minimal problems. When the tank gets to half you should refill it with petrol for at least two times. The main two problems I could think of that would cause you any concern would be the fuel filter getting partially plugged and the injectors gumming up. By continuing to dilute the tank with petrol you should be okay because the filter and injectors will clean themselves up while you drive. Just make sure you do not take any short drives. Let the engine warm up to operating temperature until you have ran at least two complete tanks of petrol through it.

Petrol instead of diesel

Hi

This is not quite recommended, and to do a 100% job, you should really drain the tank, and refill with just diesel, and renew the fuel filter.

But if it is running acceptably, drive it gently, and keep refilling with diesel.

Good Luck !

Don´t forget to give me a FixYa rating please.
