If the security light is flashing, are you using a duplicate key? Some duplicate keys do not have the correct "chip".

Before spending several hundres on a fuel pump, I recommend doing a fuel pressure test. You can get a test gauge pretty cheap at a parts store. If the pump is junk, you raise the truck, lower the fuel tank, unplug the electronics from the pump at the top of the tank, then with a hammer and flat head scrwedrive, gently tap the lock ring in a counter clockwise direction until it pops off. Pull the pump assembly out and install the new one. Reverse directions to install.

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down and so do the keys causing security fail. 2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix... Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link. Chevy blazer problems


Does sound like the fuel pump if it started after tapping on it,but the security light is a different problem. That will also kill the fuel,but if you drove it home,that problem must have started after you got home.Not sure what year it is but if it has a chip in the ign. key,try a different key,if there is no chip run the pass key relearn .
Takes about a half hour,make sure the battery is fully charged and try to kill the daytime running lights if possible,(maybe set the parking brake,some trucks that shuts off the DRL)
Then crank the engine,leave the key on(as if it was running) after about 10 min the security light should go out.When it does turn the key off and crank it again,same deal,key left on for 10 min. till the light goes out. Have to do this 3 times ,should start on the 4th attempt. That will reset the security , but if the pump is bad it still may not start,the security light should be out tho.
When the pumps wear out the brushes you can get them to run once or twice by tapping on the tank,sometimes,but it sounds like a pump as in order.

My 98 Chevy Blazer won't stay running. I've replaced the starter ignition switch, fuel filter, and fuel pump. Turns over and dies.

1990 chevy blazer 350 ci throttle body fuel injected . the motor is flooding out u can see the injectors keep dumping fuel into the throttle body


Sounds like you have an injector leaking. Have someone just cycle the key on and off to run the fuel pump but don't crank the engine. If you see fuel dripping from the injectors, unbolt the injector cover on the throttle body, remove the injectors and replace the orings around the injectors.

Replace the fuel filter. It should be in line with the fuel pump on the inside of the frame on the driver's side forward of the pump. There should be 1 or 2 bolts securing the bracket in place. Leave them tight and remove the fittings on the front and rear of the filter. Fuel will begin to leak from the lines as you loosen them so keep you face safely away from that area. Once the fitting nuts are backed out completely, remove the bracket bolts and then the filter. Reverse the steps to reinstall.

Fuel pressure regulator. It regulates the fuel pressure you receive going to the injectors. All the injectors would not be bad, so you have to take a step back to the next component, which should be the regulator.

hmmm, sounds like an ignition switch problem. Not the tumbler/key switch, the ignition switch.

Won't stay running


sounds like fuel delivery, sometimes check valve in fuel pump will quit working and fuel will drain back into tank, or pin hole in one of fuel lines, check fuel pressure
