I have almost the same exact issue on my 2004. When I start the vehicle the instrument cluster is completely dead. Sometimes it comes back within a few minutes and sometimes it takes longer. When itis not wrking, the vehicle is not charging and drains the battery. I purchased a new battery because I thought that was the problem and the next day dead again. I put a jump box to it 15 minutes later the vehicle started (rough) and then 5 minutes later the cluster came to life again. Now it has been -10 or below outside so I was thinking that perhaps a major solenoid may have frozen. But now it's above 10 DegF and it is still doing the same thing. Anyone?

Also, the only electronics that work during thi blackout period is the radio and the chrono mirror. However as the battery dies, the radio starts acting goofy like checking for CD's that arent there. But nothing else electrical works including the heater, heated seats, rear window defooger, etc...

your alarm system has been tripped when the battery went dead, to get the information on how to reset the alarm is to call the car manufacture to get the procedure, and should not cost you anything.

Hello I have 1998 nissan altima and my question is, what would cause me to lose all electrical power? No dash lights and wont crank.

Sounds like a failed alternator to me. The alt powers everything when running. If failed the battery takes over, then dies leaving no power source and no start. Charge the battery start the car and put a volt meter across the battery. When running it should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If it is reading around 12, your alternator has failed.

Kangoo van 17dci laying for 8 weeks and now wont start

when you say won go do you mean that there is no power at all,( flat battery,) there is power only lights in the dash? First of all check whether you do have powerful Battery for a crank start. If not then ask for a help from a qualified electrician to jump start it by means of a strong battery and leads. 8 weeks it is a long time for a battery to drop power down possible completely dead if the battery is old.

My 95 sierra dies and won't start. no lights on dash then suddenly lights come on and truck will start. please help.

first check the connections at the battery. make sure there is no corrosion between the cable end and the battery.

When you say it wont start can you hear the starter cranking the engine over or is the vehicle completely dead?

If its completely dead I would check for power to the ignition switch. if there is power than I would check for power out of the switch. If there is no power than possible the ignition switch is failing.

I might be able to get you some wiring info if needed. just let me know.

2002 Tahoe engine will not start

Electrical problems are difficult to diagnose in person without testing ...however, it seems that you may be loosing the body ground, causing power loss to the clock and likely the computer as well. As the starter is able to turn the engine, likely there is no problem with engine grounding. While cranking, the accessory side of the ignition switch should remain "hot" otherwise you would loose the clock every time you started it up. If it's not a ground problem, I'd look at the ignition switch itself to make sure it's not dropping power to ignition system while starter is engaged. on some vehicles this can also happen at the starter relay if an ignition bypass is used to provide hotter starting spark.

Lights started flickering battery light came on Dash lights and gages went crazy now wont start

Like you said, battery may be flat. You can check that with a multimeter.

Next check the alternator. Faulty alternator leads to uncharged battery.
