If gauges dont come on, the truck wont start.

I have a 97 Chevy 1500. It only has 109,000 miles on it. I just changed the fuel pump and I have a new batterie in it as well.  Lately my truck will not start every time. I know whetter or not it will when I first turn my key because if the gauges do not have any movement and light up the truck will not start, if they come on the truck will start. My mechanic is stumped by this as am I. The lights and radio both work so I know that it is not the batterie. Any ideas?

You need to have a fuel pressure gauge to check it when it wont run. Take your fuel pump relay and switch it for the horn relay. Is the ground good for the fuel pump, the wire bolts on the frame. these had problems with the connector at the fuel tank, make sure they are in good conditon and dont look like they have been hot or melted.

Gas gauge does not work correctly.

the sending unit is a variable resistor(potientiometer ) on the fuel pump
its probly bad it requiers a couple confirmation tests prier to dropping your gas tank and changing the pump but I got my money on that sending unit 97% of the time new fuel pump will fix it you coul change just the sending unit but you still have to pay almost as much and its the same job smartest thing too do is change the whole thing
