Open the hood up. You will find two different types of sticks, one near the alternator to the belts side, which is yellow or white colored and one on the battery side. It is orange colored, round small cup like dip stick, secured with a safety lock on it. Press the lock a side with your thump and take the stick out. When you push the stick inside it will sit in place firmly with a click sound.
You can add the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) here.

Manual transmission is different than the automatic transmissions. The solution I posted yesterday was about the automatic transmission.

On the side of manual transmission is a gear oil level bolt. Park the car on a level ground. Remove the gear oil level bolt. If you see the oil flowing or trickling out of the hole, the level is OK and no need to add any more oil in it. If the oil does not flow out, continue adding oil until it starts flowing out..

Recommended transmission oil is SAE 75w85. The total manual transmission oil capacity is approximately 2.7 liters.

SOURCE: 2003 Toyota Celica GTs 6-speed transmission problem

Grinding going into third gear only may indicate a worn syncronizer ring. There are no adjustments on the shift cables, so I doubt highly that changing the cables will help you, since you are talking about 3rd gear only. Please note: This issue may be still under warranty, if your vehicle has less than 60,000 miles and is not 5 years old. Replacement of 6-speed internal parts is best left to a pro.

My 1990 toyota celica transmission sometimes takes 15 to30 seconds to go into drive. What should I do?

Warm up engine until you see the temp indicator come up off the C mark about 1/8 inch. This should take about 5-8 minutes. Shut off engine and check transmission fluid level. Always check level with engine warmed up. After adding fluid, run it again for 5 minutes to warm up the fluid you just put in, and check it again. Do not over fill. Also examine color of your fluid. It should be red. If it is brown, or reddish brown, it's burnt. Drain fluid, remove pan, clean off magnet inside of pan. clean out sludge from pan. replace filter and gasket.replace pan, refill fuid, warm up and check level.

Transmisson ingages in reverse car won't move

your transmission is slipping when its cold. when it warms up the parts inside expand and take up the slack that's caused by the clutches and bands inside being worn. start by checking the trans. fluid level and condition. if it's low, add fluid. if it's brown or black or sparkly, your transmission is junk and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
