Fuel leaking from top of gas tank

1989 toyota pickup 22re motor, Cant find replacement lines or sending unit, and not even sure if that is the problem

I have dropped the tank once and it appeared the gasket for the potentiometer was cracked, so i replaced it. But, it was leaking again the next day. I think this time I will just pull the bed off, so I can do a better inspection. My main problem is that I cant find replacement lines. I am wondering if I can splice in basic fuel hose, or if that wont work? I just want it to stop leaking, Im about to start coating everything in rtv black silicone.

Also, ever since I noticed the fuel leak, I have trouble starting the truck, but usually starts by the second try.

Sounds like return fuel line from engine has a leak at tank.look for smaller of to metal lines in front of tank and trace hose to top of tank fairly easy to replace.

Sounds like you are going to have to drop the tank out to inspect and fix. with luck it will be leaking from the fuel pump seal or the return line.
Bad luck would be if the tank is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
Syphon as much gas out of the tank as you can before you drop it , gas is heavy.

If your truck is fuel injected , and the pump is in the tank , regular fuel line hose won't do.........need to buy stronger hose rated for fuel injected cars. If it is the return line , won't be as high presure

On 89 toyota pickup 22re 4x4 On my efi i have a gas filter with 3nips where do those vaccum lines go??? Or even better a vaccum diagram for all lines... thankyou

The fuel filter only has 2 hoses, an in and an out. The thing with more hoses is the gas tank evaporative system, and they go to the charcoal canister, the intake manifold, and the gas tank. The filter is usually in back next to the gas tank, where the pump is, so that the pump never runs dry. But some times it is up front. Often is it threaded on. The 3 lines are for the charcoal canister though, and it not the filter.

Low fuel pressure can cause this or a clogged filter, has the fuel pressure been checked? Has the fuel filter ever been changed?

I have a 93 Toyota Pickup that has a gas leak near the tank. Cant see where but fuel lines run to the tank and itt is in that area.

I've never had a problem with a sly leak-Usually I lose my gas tank driving over rocks, and you can see the remnants, or it's a cab-mount (No smoking, please!), but here's my advice: No matches! Take some water, add food colouring, and dump it on the tank. That way, the gas will push the water aside so you can see where it goes/comes from. My guess is right at the side facing front, or right up top, at the fuel vent or pickup line. Also check to make sure the fuel level sensor is tight, as is the fuel line entrance.

Gas is not getting from gas tank to Carburator .. 1987/88 Wrangler 42. engine was recently rebuilt .. gas tank sending unit was removed and repaired .. fuel line was blown out with air compressor. fuel...

Make sure you have the lines attached correctly on the sending unit and make sure there no small holes in the line. The pump pulls fuel and will draw in air. To make sure the pump is good, attach the tank side to a container of fuel and see if the engine starts. (keep the container below the pump or it can start a siphon and appear to be OK when it's not)
If the repair to the sender involved soldering up a line leak, make sure the line is not still leaking and that the line has not filled with solder.
It's a really simple system...there are no "trick" items there. If everything is intact and the pump is good, it has to work!!!

Clogged fuel line... maybe fuel filter clogged. Air compressor can clear line. Blow out the line coming in to the carb from the tank.

1989 Saab 900 low level fuel light

You don;t say whether the fuel gauge is reading accurately, or whether it's always on empty. If the gauge is always showing empty, it's most likely a problem with the sending unit in the fuel tank. Check the resistance across the two terminals of the sending unit.

On a C900, the fuel sender level unit is separate from the fuel pump and located on the right side top of the tank, accessible by removing the trunk floor lift up panel (the pump is located on the left side top of the tank.
Possible problems are: electrical line off or broken, float not working (it's fairly delicate); or gauge not working.

Test the resistance of the sending unit with the lines disconnected, the resistance should be 2.6 to 3.8 ohms full tank, 63.3 to 67.5 ohms empty tank; and test for voltage across the top of the sender unit, if no voltage, that's likely the problem!

If the gauge is otherwise reading accurately (showing 'full' for a full tank, etc) then the problem is likely a gauge malfunction and can be simply replaced.

Good luck!
