If the thermostat is working then you have to look at the water pump.

Why has my 2004 trailblaizer suddenly start to overheat and make a whistling noise?

First check the thermostat being stuck open causing high temp, can take out and drive to check or replace, inexpensive part. Not sure on whistle, maybe window slightly cracked or vacuum line disconnected or cracked

Ok so ill check the egr valve see if its dirty, but what's the chances its a thermostat stuck open at a certain position because during the winter my temp gauge barly moved above cold and I could touch the...

I would start with the thermostat.

The egr valve regulates the amount of exhaust gas that enters the engine. If the EGR where not opening the check engine light would come on and you would notice nothing out of the ordinary as far as the engine running.

If the EGR where sticking open or stuck open you would notice at minimum a rough idle. If it is open enough it would cause the engine to stall and or not start.

The EGR has nothin to do with how hot or cold the engine runs and will not cause the engine to idle high.

ENGINE OVER HEATING

Assuming you checked the coolant level and it was fine, it is probably a stuck thermostat. Feel if the radiator hoses get hot. If not, the thermostat is stuck.

Runs fine til the temp out gets hot enough then dies. Wait ten mins and it will start again and run for a few mins then dies again

you didn't say if it was hot on the temp gauge? no matter, it sounds like you have a stuck t-stat. when the engine is cold, a mechanical valve keeps the water from coming out of the engine block until warmed up, then opens and lts the cooler water in. this cools down the engine and the colder temp of the water shuts the valve again. this happens constantly while the engine runs, and if your t-stat is stuck, the engine heats up the water in the block, but with nowhere to go, simply overheats the motor. a good repair book will locate the thermostat housing for you and should you the repair procedure. (i assume you have checked the water in the rad. low water will give you same symptoms). good luck.

My bmw 323i overheats about after 2 hours of driving my heaters work and i dont know why.

check if thermostat is stuck open as too much flow can cause this. start car cold and see how long top radiator hose takes to heat up. shoud stay cold for 3-4 minutes.
if thats ok check thermo fan operation- run can in drive way at idle for 20 + minutes untill fan starts, keep an eye on temp guage.

My 1989 chevy camero, automatic, v8 305 engine, is acting funny. Brand new battery, water pump, brakes, tires, and trani mount. Has some wiring problems. Aparrently is wired backwards. It over heats alot....

CHECK YOUR CLUTCH COOLANT FAN IT SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN YOU TURN IT WITH YOUR HAND.IF ITS LOOSE AND WOBBLEY.NEED REPLACING.THAT CAN CAUSE CAR TO OVERHEAT.ALSO IF YOU LIVE IN HOT CLIMATE.YOU NEED 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER.TOO MUCH WATER CAUSE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT.YOU NEED ANTIFREEZE MIXTURE TO RAISE BOILING POINT.TO HELP ENGINE COOL BETTER.NOW THE STARTING PROBLEMS.CLEAN BATTERY CABLES IF CORRODED.IF THEY ARE OLD BEEN ON CAR A WHILE REPLACE THEM.IF BATTERY CABLES IS GOOD. HAVE STARTER CHECKED REMOVE IT TAKE IT TO AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS.SOUND LIKE A BAD STARTER HIT IT WITH HAMMER AND IT CRANK.

Engine running to cool

Replace the thermostat. If thermo is stuck open, coolant only heats up when there is no flow over radiator(idle) and then cools down when driving. Also, check coolant level, same response as stuck thermo.

2005 dodge caravan need to know symptoms for faulty thermostat

There are two primary symptoms of a faulty thermostat (assuming you mean the coolant thermostat in the engine not the A/C Heater Thermostat).  The thermostat can fail in basically two ways:
1)  Stuck open - Engine runs colder, heater takes forever to heat up. 2)  Stuck closed - Engine runs very hot, then will suddenly drop in temperature, then run very hot again.  Or engine overheats constantly.  When the engine is hot, feel the upper radiator hose.  If it is not hot, you can bet the thermostat is stuck closed.  If it is hot, the thermostat may not be stuck close, but not opening at the proper temperature.
Stuck open is annoying, but not dangerous.  Stuck close is dangerous and can cause overheating-related damage to your engine.
If you are handy, you can replace it yourself.  Otherwise it is an easy job for a mechanic.
