Question about 2010 Hyundai Elantra

2010 hyundai brake lights wont go off

Afternoon! I noticed this morning that my brake lights would not turn off. I recently had a remote start put in my car (this Feb.). Could there any correlation between the two? If the remote start is malfunctioning, could it affect the brake lights? Thanks!

Thanks for responding! So the brake lights only stay on when I try to remote start it. If I start the car up regularly, they aren't on. Should I bring the car to where the remote start was put in?

Hi joe its going to be that socket that has poor contact. It will more than likley need a the socket but try this first. unhook the battery, just so you dont blow the fuse. then remove the bulb look in the socket theres going to be 2 copper looking metal contacts bend them up alittle. this will take away the poor contact if thay are not cracked. If they are cracked you will have to get a socket.

SOURCE: Brake lights won't go off

learned to trouble shoot this in school, it might be that your lights and or switch are backwards, that was usually the case we discovered to be the culprit, and be sure you have the right bulbs and not some random generic compatible with these model cars, those bulbs will not be compatible with the current going thru them, if this does not help, you might want to try to reinstall the original components to back track your work, unfortunetlly electronics on cars is very time consuming as we learned in class.....hope this works or helps you...shia

If you have not found the problem yet, check the transmission interlock. Sounds like the shifter interlock switch may not be engaging to allow the starter to activate!

Does the motor crank (starter engaged and turning the motor)? If it does not crank, do you hear the solenoid clicking (engaging the starter gear into the flywheel teeth)?

So the starter is turning the engine over (you can see the serpentine belt moving when you try to start)?

Did you replace or resurface rotors also? You might have glazed rotors and pads can't grip rotors as they're supposed to. You should have rotors replaced or resurfaced (if they're within safety specs)
