Block heaters are installed in place of one of your freeze plugs on the engine. Drain the coolant and knock out a freeze plug to install. Directions are included with the block heater, including usually which freeze plug to put the heater in, and the orientation of the heater in the freeze plug hole.

Block heater plug location for 2007 3.9L uplander how to tell if its working or not. I plug it in over night, because it gets down to 30 below up here in Edmonton Alberta Canada.

'block heaters' are usually radiator heaters. Switch it on overnight and feel the top of the radiator. It should be just warm.

Where is the block heater located in 2014 journey purchased in alberta

I find the Journey Forum very helpful on questions such as this:

Generally the block heater is placed in a freeze plug hole in the block. If the dealer has it plugged in, the cord & plug should be routed around to the front somewhere. You may be able to trace it. There is a chance the cord is not attached.

Change head gasket on 65 mustang 200

Drain antifreeze -DON"T POUR IT DOWN A STORM DRAIN - then remove valve cover, Remove exhaust from head assembly. On this engine the head is also the intake manifold - it's cast as a unit. Remove carb and remove heater hoses from carb base plate. Remove head bolts and discard. Break head loose from block - may have to smack it a time or two to break gasket loose. Get a buddy to help lift the head off the block - it's fairly heavy. Clean gasket surfaces on both head and block. Install new gasket onto block - pay attention to gasket orientation - it goes on only one way correctly. Reverse procedure to re-install - USE NEW HEAD BOLTS! Silly to try to save $20 bucks on bolts and ruin an engine.

Why is there a electric plug under the hood of my 2003 impala

Hi, someone has likely installed a block heater for cold climates. In Northern climates, the car is plugged in overnight to keep the engine from freezing. If you have recently moved to the north, talk to your neighbors about how to use a block heater in the local area. If you bought the car used and do not live in cold climates, you can ignore the heater.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Block heater

Thje only block heaters I know of are the ones installed by the customers. First thing you would see is an electrical household cord hanging under the engine somewhere. The heater is installed where a soft plugs is used on an engine. This would be in the side of an engine block.

If you don't have one have a garage put one in. You don't want to take a chance this winter and not have it done right.
