Question about 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

I have a 98 Malibu needs new Body COntrol Module

I have a 98 Malibu that won't stay running, seems to be getting enough gas but keeps dying. Had towed to mechanic he said to send to dealership as the BCM needed to be reprogrammed. Dealership says they tried and it did no good as there is a water leak. THis caused the BCM and whatever is housed in to become corroded and moldy as well as terminals to also become corroded. Is this possible? I can't find any help online. I was told that it will cost at least 900.00 to fix, is this true?

Absolutely possible and happens more often than you can imagine. A water leak in the windshield, sunroof drain clog, open body seam. Its endless. Unfortunately designers don't think along "what if " situations. I've seen water damaged computer mounted under seats get water soaked . Big dollars to repair. Many go through insurance. Hope this helps

98 VW Died on Hot Day (30 degrees Celsius, 86 Fahrenheit)

  1. Check the ignition switch condition and operation. The electrical contacts in the run position may be worn or damaged. Try restarting the engine with all electrical accessories in the off position. Sometimes turning the key on an off will help in emergency situations, however once the switch has shown signs of failure, it should be replaced as soon as possible.
  2. Check for loose, corroded, damaged or shorted wires for the ignition system and repair or replace.
  3. Check for manifold vacuum leaks or vacuum hose leakage and repair or replace parts as necessary.
  4. Measure the fuel pump delivery volume and pressure. Low fuel pump pressure can also be noticed as a lack of power when accelerating. Make sure the fuel pump lines are not restricted. The fuel pump output is not adjustable and requires fuel pump replacement to repair.
  5. Check the engine fuel and ignition management system. Inspect the sensor wiring and electrical connectors. A dirty, loose or damaged sensor or control module wire can simulate a failed component.
  6. Check the exhaust system for internal restrictions.

My 97 Chevy Malibu won't stay running.

there are two components that you should be looking at one is called a throttle position sensor and the other is a idle air control motor/valve.these two will make the car hard star or not start at all.the are both located in the general area of the intake manifold right where the throttle cable connects.

My '98 Camry won't stay started. I start it and it just dies not matter how many times I try it. If I leave my foot on the gas it runs but at soon as my foot leaves the gas it dies.

What you have is a bad Idle Air Control ("I.A.C.") valve. This device admist a precise amount of air to keep the engine running at idle. This is a common issue. Get a new one from a dealer, and you will be up and running fine.
