Unfortunately when the belt breaks on this car, the valves go out of time with respect to the pistons and as the engine continues to turn from momentum. the pistons bang into the valves and bend them. This means that you'll have to have the cylinder head removed and the bent valves replaced. In some instances, more serious engine damage occurs and the entire engine must be replaced. This is an expensive job,

Timing is incorrect/usually have to find #1 cyl top dead cent then use camshaft alignment marks and then reinstall belt.

I HAVE A 2000 DODGE STRATUS WAS DRIVING FINE DIDNT DRIVE FOR A DAY GOT IN THIS MORNING TURNS OVER BUT WONT FULLY START ENGINE IS THIS MY TIMING BELT

If the timing belt went or slipped you would have backfiring or worse. It is likely another issue such as cap/rotor, control module, sensor(s) or fuel pump. Is the check engine light on?

Hope this helps.

If a timing belt breaks on a 98 toyota camry does it mess up the valves? I have replaced my timing belt, serpintine belt, fuel pump, water pump, and cranckshaft censor. It trys to turn over but wont start...

If the timing belt broke while you were driving then unfortunately yes the valves can get messed up. The piston(s) can hit the valve(s) as it comes to the top of it's stroke. Common for valves to get bent and less common for pistons to crack.

If you installed a new timing belt, I would make sure the valve timing is set and then do a compression test.

Drove it home everything was ok! went out the next

sounds like a broken timing belt, timing belts like to break during engine cranking and engine shut down. there are inspection holes in the timing cover,if you can't determine, remove top half of timing cover and check belt for slap,if there's slap,it's broke.

Replaced water pump now car wont start

I believe your wter pump is timing belt driven. it could have fallen off, or it is broken. bad timing belt will not let a car start.

Car wont start after over heating

Sometimes when the waterpump leaks it leaks onto the timing belt making it slippery the timing belt probably jumped a tooth, to check this purchase a compression tester unscrew a spark plugs and screw the tester into the spark plug hole, have an assistant turn the engine over for 5 seconds wright down the reading proceed to test all 4 cylinder the compression should be a minimum of 110 psi on all if one of the readings is 50 psi the timing belt must be replaced, either way you must perform a compression test to rule out a timing belt issue first.
