I have a 2004 lancer Es when I turn the aircon on after 15 minutes of driving I cant change the gears the aircon works fine but renders the gears useless and have to turn it off to continue to drive

There is no relationship between the air conditioning system and the gear box in the vehicle.

The engine operates the aircon compressor via the serpentine belt from the crankshaft pulley and if the aircon is operating normally the aircom compressor will not be faulty either.

If you are having problems with the gearbox it has nothing to do with the aircon system. The issue will be with the gearbox itself.

The engine stops when aircone is swithed on?

There is a device, the A/C idle-up vacuum switching valve, which raises the engine revs a bit when you turn on the A/C. This is needed because the A/C compressor throws an additional load on the engine which at idle causes some engines to stall.

I think yours has failed, which in my experience is common enough.

the engine doesn't like the extra stress of the air con unit being run _ there is no way of fixing this _ unless you get a full engine overhaul or a secondhand engine and installed _ the engine is old and the extra pressure on it with the aircon it just cant handle it

I have a nissan sentra 1996. As per checking the ac compressor has stacked up, is there a connection between the ac and the engine because the car engine stops when i started it, there is a slight...

There is a clutch between the compressor and the engine that turns the compressor over. Although unlikely, if the compressor has completely seized then when the compressor clutch engages it will stall your engine.

Your car should have an aircon on/off button. Turn your car on and immediately switch off the aircon, if the compressor clutch is at fault it should stay disengaged and you should be able to use the engine.

is it the ecotec engine fitted 1.8 or 2.0./2.2l or the diesel 1.7 engine.. how long have you not used the air con for. not using it for a long time you can damage the pump the flown sensor. even the temperature sensor. but if the engine is trying to stall with the ac on then the pump may have a fault. ac should be run for 10min once a week no matter the weather. stops you having problems later.

I have a 98 dodge caravan, and when you turn on the air con it makes a loud noise like the engine is going to fall out. But after u go above 1500 rpms it goes away.

check if the drive belt that runs the aircon and the water pump is not too loose. When aircon comes on it might be overloading the engine but once the engine picks up things seem to go ok. Alternatively the compressor bearing might be failing.

Looks like your A/C actuator is malfunctioning and needs to be check out and adjust! The actuator functions to compensate the idling of your engine when you turn on the a/c system. it was powered by the vacuum, check the hose that might have been broken or disconnected. hope that might help u out! Car jerks when I stop only when I have air conditioner on

When the aircon is switch on it puts a substantial load to the engine: you need to get your car tuned to take into account the load from the aircon. Most car have a mechanism that increases the idle speed when the aircon is active: if you are unable to get your car tuned yet, try making the engine idle speed slighty faster while you have the aircon turn-on (the ajustment screw should be close to the accelator cable connection at your engine end). Don't make the idle speed too high and check by turning the aircon off and on to assess the best compromise idle speed to stop your car from almost stalling (e.g. jerking).

Good luck!
