Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 92 Toyota paseo manual transmission is making a bad scraping/ grinding noise when I start the car and it is in neutral. Upon first pushing the clutch it stops, then resumes when I release the clutch. I thought it was only with the clutch released but recently I discovered it does it with the clutch pressed in as well if I give it gas at the same time. But it does do it less this way. It does it in idol, and while accelerating as well. From inside the car It seems to be on the driver side, when looking under the hood, it sounded like it started on the driver side and then got louder and appeared to be coming from the driver side of inside the camshaft or something beneath it. it gets worse in cold weather. Also I have a clutch for this car but it's from an automatic, could I still use it on my manual tranny if that is the problem?

Automatics do not have a clutch that you can use in a manual transmission car. pull the tranny drain plug and look for metal bits on the magnet in the plug. If so it will be input shaft bearing that has failed. To fix that the tranny will have to come out and be repaired.

SOURCE: 2003 Hyundai Tiburon making a weird noise

Hello mpolci...The 2003 Tiburon was sold to the public with a defective clutch, it failed due to warpage and bad pressure plate... among other things. There are MANY class action lawsuits. Did you resurface or replace the flywheel when the clutch was replaced? Did you go with an aftermarket clutch kit, or factory? Also the slave cylinder on the 03 was known to have a defective valve.
You can try checking the levels and bleeding the system and if you still have problems, then it could be a release bearing, a loose clutch pad, or a broken pressure plate spring....If the clutch is still under warranty, i would return it to the installer.
Good luck, i hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.

What kind of fluid does a 92 toyota paso manual transmission take

Valvoline DEX/MERC Synthetic Transmission Fluid.

Ask your local parts store for a generic alternative that will be cheaper, but just as good.

I have a 93 toyota paseo and when I drive it the gears grind like they wont shift corectlt I wanna know should I just get a hole new transsmison 4 it or is it the shift solenoid that needs 2 be replaced

If it is a standard/manual shift transmission, the clutch slave or master cylinder is probably going bad. If you continue to drive it like this it can damage the transmission. I would get these parts checked out ASAP to prevent transmission damage. This is a minor repair compared to replacing the transmission.

If it is an automatic transmission grinding and not shifting, the problem will be inside the transmission itself, and it should be repaired or replaced.

My 95 toyota corolla makes grinding scraping noise when going uphill. It's coming from the right front of the car. Almost sounds like it's coming from the breaks or transmission. A mechanic thinks it could...

Bad motor mounts will not usually cause the kind of noise you describe they will cause more vibration to be felt at all times.

Sometimes the brake rotor dust cover plate can rub against the rotor and make a grinding/scraping sound. Raise the car, remove the wheel, and check the clearance between the dust cover and the rotor.

If your shocks/struts are bad the tire could be rubbing against the strut. Check the strut.

2003 toyota mr2 spyder 5 speed transmission grinding noise

Here is what is going on. When you push in the clutch pedal you remove the connection between the engine and the transmission. At this time all the parts in the transmission stop rotating.Since the only parts in the transmission that can rotate without moving the car are the input parts we can safely assume that the noise can only be from there. This can be a transmission input bearing. Worn Synchro mechanism (allows the transmission to shift without grinding the gears)Low fluid in the tranny. Or a bad clutch component. Top off or change the fluid. If it still makes the noise you need to take it to a tranny shop.
