did you get the scan test done to get the fault codes.

    SECTION 307-01B: Automatic Transmission — 5R55E

    2000 Explorer/Mountaineer Workshop Manual

    Transmission Description

The 5R55E has the following features:

    • Five forward speeds.
    • Electronic shift, pressure, and torque converter clutch controls.
    • Three compound planetary gearsets.
    • Three bands.
    • Three multi-plate clutches.
    • Two one-way clutches.

All hydraulic functions are directed by electronic solenoids to control:

    • Engagement feel.
    • Shift feel.
    • Shift scheduling.
    • Modulated torque converter clutch (TCC) applications.
    • Timing of the 3-2 torque demand and kickdown shifts.
    • Engine braking (with O/D canceled) utilizing the coast clutch.
    • Manual 1st timing.

    • The main control valve body and related components are part of the pressure side of the hydraulic system.
    • The main control valve body consists of the solenoids, the valve body assembly and the separator plate.
    • These components combine to convert electrical signals into hydraulic actions.

      • All valves in the main control assembly are anodized aluminum and cannot be sanded, filed, or dressed in any other way. Any damage to the valves that prevents or restricts their movement, requires replacement of the entire main control valve body.

SOURCE: transmission wont engage reverse or o.d.

i think the problem is not the pcm, also check the transfer (if your car is 4x4) it have a chain and components that make this problem

91 Nissan truck 5 speed transmission location for reverse lockout

I didn't find a reverse lockout by that terminology in the Haynes manual, but there is a reverse check sleeve mounted on the left side of the transmission just forward of the gearshift assembly. It is covered by an oval shaped cover held in place with two bolts.

Can car overheating cause transmission to not engage in any gears

the problem indicates that the torque converter clutch servo/ solenoid has failed and that is why there is no drive action on gear selection
over heating engines will cause transmission problems as the transmission oil cooler is in the radiator
by not attending to warning lights you are setting yourself for costly repairs and not having a compression test or cooling system pressure tests you are destine for long periods without transport

My chevrolet transport is no longer engaging gears, when i put it on drive or reverse gear, it doesnt engage

check fluid level in transmission . run the fault codes and look for a faulty TCM or torque converter clutch solenoid / servo

What's your problem?chevy suburban wont reverse its a 454

You will probably need a transmission or have yours rebuild. Probably broken internal component that engages reverse gear.

I have a 1965 Mustang Fastback, I am restoring it through my school. Quite a few years back one of the students "rebuilt" the transmission, I beleive it is stock. We are close to having the car...

I am assuming that you have a 4-speed manual transmission?
If the shifter mechanism had a lockout built into it, then you will have to repair it or figure out some way to disable it before you will be able to shift the transmission into reverse gear.
Another option would be to replace the shifter mechanism entirely.

Transmission just quit.can move shifter wont engage.fluid in trans is full

there real bad on the auto matic tranmistions going out on them alot of times it is the low gear pack that goes out. the low gear pack also has reverse in it so when the trans goes out it no longer shifts right. and it will not give any warning on doing such so u need a new transmision
