1983 Cadillac Eldorado-HT4100 Engine/Brakes Problems-HELP

My car is a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe....... The car seems to me to have idle problems, i was at a stop and the car while i was holding down the break decided that it wanted to go anyways and knodged up a bit on its own while im holding down the brake. Another problem is that it cannot make it up hills and starts to deccelerate. Scary feeling when you got a bus behind you.If you drive it on flat ground seems to work ok i never felt properly yet so im not sure if its relevent. but as soon as i reach a big slope and for a long time i will not make it unless i got a good start to the hill, but off the line at the street lights up a hill i will not make it. The brakes as far as i know i got them fixed by mechanics i dont trust and they seem to not brake properly. i mean as im holding down the brake all the way and i dont seem to get much of a response.I understand its an old car but i havent experience this before. if perhaps you have any ensight on these problems i would love it , as this is my baby and dream car i dont want to go through the trouble and find a new one. these are rare cars.classics. thank you

Sounds like the ISC ( idle speed control ) motor and TPS ( throttle position sensor ) are in need of a synchronizing adjustment. If one of the adj is off is throws off the other. UNFORTUNATELY the HT4100 had a reputation for leaking intake manifold and head gaskets, whichic also could the problem. Any service lights coming on ? As far as going UPHILL power loss, first thing I would do is replace the FUEL FILTER . road test and note any difference. Now the brakes. Regardless of the vehicles age, done properly and with properly operating equipment should stop like new. Either done incorrectly, or poor quality parts. Many factors. The car is a keeper is handled properly. Hope this helps

Can a 3800 series 2 v6 replace a ht4100 v8 in a 1986 coupe deville?

Sub frame , wires, computer, BCM are all different. A 4.5 or 4.9 engine will fit if you use your intake and gaskets for a 4100.

I have a 1995 touring coupe with 50K miles and the transmission seems to have a problem. The upper gears are not working and when I get around 50 mph the engine line comes on and the rpm's go crazy

If your caddy has the original trans, although it only has 50k on it,it is 15 years old

It will most likely need to be rebuilt
I used to own a trans shop years ago.
If you got 100,000 straight through in 5 years, you did good.
I did a lot of fairly new caddy trans, for a couple dealerships.

SeaFoam in my 94 Cadillac Eldorado. Bad idea!

I doubt the Sea Foam had anything to do with that. I'd check for a vacuum hose off, especially by the PCV valve. Maybe a broken hose or the PCV valve itself might be stuck. Maybe just put a new one in, they are not that spendy. No vacuum would explain the brakes not working.

Mysterious knock from motor

the noise is characteristic of this 4.1 liter ht4100 engine. the problem lies in the #1 main bearing clearance. this noise is very common on this engine and will clear up when replacing #1 main bearings but might return after you put some miles on it. i fixed a lot of these as a cadillac tech for many years. good luck!!

Shift problems with 94 eldorado touring coupe

I'd check & lube all kickdown cables in the area of the throttle body, as well as follow any to transmission and lubricate well there too. It almost sounds like something may be seized and holding into lower gear.

Additionally, you will needa 3/8 socket wrench as well.
