Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

3 Answers

Transmission noises i have a 1998 gmc seirra 2500 HD with 155,011 miles on it. lately the tranney has been making noises like the pump is being ran dry. i am almost positive that the filter or screen is cloged. i think if i change the filter and screen, the noise will go away. however some people have told me that with the miles i have on the truck, i would be better off not changing it and should just leve it alone. is this true or would it be better to change it?

The noise is it chatter like growling the torque converter your oil pump is a gear pump.. ..Mmmm...you got a 4L60 e tranny thats a 700 r4 with electronics anyway break open the filter check it out is there metal alot inspect ..do you see teflon rings material from flat washers??? only drain and fill do not forget dont flush trannys with mileage ...NOTE if you rebuild !!!those trannys have a notorious problem in high gear the tcc solenoid is pulse width modulated and gets stuck in the valve body the fix is a new valve body or drill and machine a new bore for that ...also get a heavy duty sprag clutch installed ...

A transmission filter and fluid are cheap, and a transmission rebuild or replacement is very expensive. I had a transmission chew itself into little ***** metal pieces when the torque converter disintegrated because the prior owner didn't regularly service it. After $1385 for a rebuilt tranny off the rack, I have started servicing mine every 24,000 miles. The filter and fluid run about $36, and although it is a messy job, it usually takes me only 45 minutes. Unless you are planning on junking the truck any time soon, you are better off taking the cheap route and service the transmission.

I think it is humorous that the website automatically censored the word bit ty (minus the space). I think the filters need a little tweaking. Hopefully it won't censor anything in this comment.

Any time a transmission pump makes noise, it is starving for fluid or is worn completely out. Your next drive may very well be the one in which you will call the wrecker service. Always maintain your vehical. I would recommend that you change the fluid and filter and try a test drive to see if the pump has settled down. If not there is an oil treatment for transmissions by Lucas that is very effective in calming old, overused transmission pumps. Hope this helps, good luck!

I have a2009 GMC 2500 HD with 195,000 miles. It seems like the transmission is slipping or it revs real high before it shifts into gear.

check both your fluid levels and the programming for the tranny, if it's electronic. 195K means you should probably look at a fluid swap and possibly any tranny filter

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

1998 breeze. transmission noise when accelerator is released.

Hello, what kind of noise? Clanking, whining, knocking, cladder, squawking, squeaking, rattling, etc...
It could be a number of things. But first, have you ever had the automatic transmission fluid changed? If you have a lot of miles on your vehicle and never had the transmission fluid changed out, ti might be to late. The biggest killer of automatic transmissions is heat. The heat generated by the transmission gradual destroy the viscosity of the auto transmission fluided. GB...stewbison

I have a gmc 2003 seirra 2500 and when i turn the wheel it makes noise. In the front wheels.

If you hear the sound while turning at low speeds and at any speed you might have a busted CV joint that needs replacing. If this is at mid to high speed turning it may be because of a busted ball joint. You may have to inspect physically the underside of the car to be sure. Ensuring that all joints and bushings are not loose like the ones mentioned and the tie rod that helps the wheel turn. If they are, they might need replacing.

sounds like they need replace the pump again becuse if was good pump it would not do this.
This way amercain cars are not selling good all the jeeps have this dam problem to.
They put bad pump tell them do the job correct dig the paper work out man. Look up for better after market pump and make them do the labor becuse this one is trashed allready. Also leting your tank go below half tank shorts out all pumps faster and after market cleaners mess up the pumps and the gas liner inside i read isent that great

2004 Dodge 2500 diesel, manual trans. noise/whistle

If your certain the noise is from the transmission, you need to take this vehicle to a shop you trust. It sounds as though the fluid pump in the transmission is either starving for fluid, due to a blocked strainer, or the pump is suffering a bearing failure. If you continue to run this vehicle, you stand the chance of stranding yourself, or burning the clutches from a lack of fluid. Good Luck.
