Question about 1999 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

1985 F-250 6.9 Diesel 2WD

My truck only has 114000miles on it, but anyway, when I drive over 45 or so mph, the front end seems as though its bouncing. You can really see it from my hand bouncing on the gear shift. I thought maybe since it sat a while the tires on the front may be bad, but I figured they would round themselves out after a month or so, but I don't know. Also, my steering is weird. It seems during regular driving, back and forth with the wheel, when I make a smooth right turn, its like the wheel wants to keep turning that direction, I actually have to hold the wheel back from going too far right, left turns are fine. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.
I haven't greased the front end yet, but after that I will check as well. Maybe my tie rods?

When driving 35 mph + the front end seems to bump it feels like going over a bump in the road i dont think its the transmission because it does not happen when shifting it happens more when driving up hill...

Could be a tire out of round, or even a bad strut. Bounce the front end, if it's spring like, the strut (s) may be bad. Look for leaking of oil from them, that is a sign of a bad strut.

98 chevy silverado bounces at 45 mph and when you brake at 45

You can assess this by carefully applying the parking brake part way while holding the release and coasting down hill on an open, unoccupied bit of roadway (conditions permitting). The parking brake applies only the drums on this truck.
A shudder under these conditions would point to drums being out-of-round.

Mazda b2200, 1989 109000 miles. Vibration, seems to be in the front end, when moving between 30-40 mph, 3rd or 4th gear. Vibration still exists when not in gear, manual transmition. Tires are new and...

I have the same thing but mine is between 45-50 mph. I read about this a while back in a magazine for people that pull campers, the problem exists in all vehicles although its not as noticeable in every thing you ride in. There is a certain "point" at which your speed and engine speed reach, that causes a phenomonon that causes a vibration. Engineers relate it to "harmonics" which is a similar issue but in the electronic field of study. There is nothing you can do for it, and it varies from unnoticeable in some vehicles to driving you insane in my 1989 Mazda B2200. I had an '89 Ford F-150 that did it at 35 mph and a 2001 Dodge Diesel that did it at 45 mph, but those were the only three vehicles I've ever driven and noticed it.
