MY CAR IS SHOWING ABS LIGHT AND TODAY IS SHOWING ME A RED LIGHT THAT HAS ! P bRAKE WHAT CAN I DO

First check that you have brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir.

The error seems to indicate a parking brake error because of the 'P' and 'Brake'. On some cars the pads for the parking brake are separate to the main disc brake pads. Take to a garage, brakes are too important to meddle with. You could possibly do the job cheaper at a brake, oil and exhaust place.

ABS light stays on if car is started with parking brake engaged.

The ABS light illuminates when there is an "out of specification" condition. From your description, it sounds like your parking brake cable may require tightening, or there may be an issue where the rear brakes are not properly releasing when the parking brake is released. With car that is nearly 20 years old, it is not inconceivable that the rear brakes and parking brake assembly may require regular service.

A good first step would be to have error codes read out by a local mechanic or auto parts store. This may give you a better indication of the specific problem. In any case, ANY brake warning should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY and corrected IMMEDIATELY, as you may have a potentially dangerous potential of catastrophic brake failure. PLEASE GET THE ISSUE FIXED RIGHT AWAY!

I have a 2000 Mercedes E430 base sedan. Last week I replaced the brake light switch because it was out and it solved the problem to the point that I can now put my car into gear and drive it, however, as...

Brake light switch problem may cause the ESP / BAS lights to illuminate.

Common symptoms of a bad
Mercedes brake light switch.
  • Car stuck in Park.
  • ABS ESP ETS lights come on.
  • Can not move the shifter from Park to Drive.
  • Brakes Defective Warning on Instrument Cluster
  • Car won't shift gears. Stuck in 2nd gear, limp mode.
  • Brake lights don't work. (Brake light switch can still be defective even if the brake lights work. Checking the brake light operation is not a good test.)
  • ESP, BAS, ABS lights turn on. Car won't shift properly. Stuck in gear.

TEST: To test your new brake light switch: Turn you car off to reset the ABS light. apply the parking brake. and start the car in neutral or park without using the brake. if the problem is the brake light switch... the light will only come on when you press the brake pedal.

If you replaced the brake light switch and the light is still on you should check a few other things such as:

  • Fuses and Relays
  • ABS pump
  • ABS wheel speed sensor
  • Brake Fluid Level
  • Get an advanced scanner to read trouble codes.

NOTE: ** You may need a MBZ scan tool to reset the error code which was stored in the ECU because of the bad brake light switch.

ABS and Parking brake lights come on after shifting into drive and moving a few feet

Have the ABS codes scanned. Could be wheel speed sensors, however when the parking brake light comes on this is an indication that the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) has a problem.
The most common 1216 error was repaired on mine by sending it in to a company online for $150.00. took about a week.

My 1995 honda preludes emergency brake doenst work, when you pull it up it comes up easy and the break light does come on, also my ABS light is on and wont turn off

The parking brake problem could be rear brakes out of adjustment, a broken parking brake cable, or a parking brake cable in need of adjustment.

The ABS light mosy likely has nothing to do with your parking brake problem and will have to be diagnosed by first gathering the ABS fault codes from the ABS computer.

2003 Mountaineeer wont shift into Park

There is a shift interlock mechanism that only alows the key to come out in park. It is the same mechanism that will not let you put it into gear unless you put your foot on the brake. You cannot safely bypass it.
