Grinding when engaging into gear when warmed up.

1990 Talon Manual 5 speed, runs great when i leave for work shifts like new until i get about 30 miles away then when i shift down or up its likes to grind into gear, i have enough hydralic fluid in the resevoir i have pumped the clutch to try and get any air out of there, clutch and transmision operate fine until i get about 30 miles from home and then starts acting up. Looking for some kind of help so i dont get the run around at the shop. Thanks.

Ok every time you open the clutch resevoir you have to bleed the slave ..next hold down the clutch to the floor open the bleeder screw 10 mm bolt and then close it and pick the pedal up off the floor if your clutch is not right the pressure plate is failing most likely on mitstu stuff ...bleed first ..

(maygemini) if you adjust that nut on the back of the pedal its the pushrod is like a tie rod super sensitive if your clutch fluid gets dark its over compressed change all the fluid.. in getrag trannys i raced and blown 2 mitsubishi 5 speeds the bearing by

on the side of the bell housing follow the metal line frim your clutch resevoir ....the bleeder screw is the same as a brake bleeder screw on those...the last thing in clutch is go to the adjusting nut on the back of the pedal it will change the feel forever ..the last thing you can do with out taking off the tranny is change the pushrod that pushes the fluid but thats only if the seals are leaking in the housing and just does not provide enough pressure..

Sounds like you have slop in the clutch pedal.  They all have to be adjusted sometimes to ensure the clutch engages fully.  With the car off, you can just push on the clutch pedal with your hand.  If it goes down without much resistance, you are not yet engaging the clutch.  There should be some play but not too much.  If you feel play in the pedal, you need to look in the engine compartment and follow the clutch cable to the transmission.  If you don't know which one it is, have someone press on the pedal while you look at the engine.  There is a adjustment knob to take up the slack.

Have you tried changing the gear oil in the tranny? Mine does the same thing. Have to get it started before I can see if this fixes the grind! (see 1990 Tsi not getting fuel which is the first project)

You must have a manual transmission. Rebuild it. synchronizers are bad. The reason for grinding. Then you have worn shift forks. Reason for popping out of gear. Also replace any worn bearings or just get the bearing kit and replace them all, with the races.

Manual transmission reverse is blocked

Hi Mitch, If when engaging first gear you have a grinding and clunk try pumping the clutch pedal before engaging reverse. My reason for saying that is that if the pedal takes low to the floor you may have a defective hydrolic clutch line. If it doesn't work I think I would suspect a bent selector rod. Regards John

Eagle talon will not shift.

A transmission usually does this if it can't read the turbine speed. Some cars use the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) for shifting and others use the TSS (turbine speed sensor) for shifting.

The TSS has a single bolt and a 4-wire connector. If your speedometer works, then I would suspect the TSS is bad. It'll be found in the transmission. Just follow the wires you see running to the tranmission and look for the 4-wire sensor with a single bolt.

I have a 5speed manual transmission and it sounds as if the gears are grinding while driving in all gears. The transmission shifts ok, and does not slip, just makes the noise. Can the gears be out of...

The clutch needs an adjustment. What's happening is the clutch isn't completely engaging while you shift, causing the grinding. Once properly adjusted, the grinding will disappear.

Unfortunately any problem it could be will have the same fix. You will end up needing the trans replaced or rebuilt.

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.
