SOURCE: Want to remove the ignition lock cylinder since a broken key is stuck inside.

get a phillipshead un do about 4 screws from underneath plastic cover which hides steering colume. remove cover you will see white plug on the left hand side of ignition barrel disconect.then right hand side there will be acable disconect.now get a small chissel and anti clockwise tap bolts which have no heads on them that are on top of steering colume when they are alittle bit lose use plyers its easier pull bolts out clamp will then come of and then you can pull whole ignition of. now there is 2 brass pins which hold barrel in ignition up near the key end remove and barrel will come out but it might be easier to take whole ignition to locksmith and get them to do it and get new key for around 30 bucks i did a mates about couple months ago seeya orangepeel.

SOURCE: i need to take out old ignition lock cylinder

This is what the tech manual says.....

Ignition Lock/Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle. CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Section 6.
  2. Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
  4. Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
  5. Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.). NOTE: On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
  6. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
  7. To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing. To install:
  8. Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
  9. Secure the switch with its screw(s).
  10. Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
  11. Install the steering column covers and connect the ignition switch wiring.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: how to remove an ignition lock cylinder on 1991

hard! there is a hole on the steering column near the lock cylinder. normally you can turn the key and stick a small screw driver in it to pull out the lock cylinder. in this case you can drill the pin through that hole then pull it out

Broken key in 1995 toyota tercel

well it depends where the key is broken if it's a door simply remove the lock and bang the **** out of it till the key falls out then take both parts of key and get a new one cut but if it is an ignition than u are in the ****
the bes bet is to try using a set of dental picks there fairly cheep and easy to find or if thats not an option than it's off to the lock smith you go they can come to you but it will cost you more like 100 more for mobile

option 3 remove steering columb and take it to lock smith they will laugh but it wont cost as much as mobile service now if youcan get the ignition to turn you can remove the cylinder and take just that part to smith

but eithor way it is likely you and the local lock smith are about to become friendly also if you have a spare key take it with you when you go to the smith so worst case he can drill lock and re key to old key

Trying to find a key code location for 89 toyota tercel hatchback one key fits all

Hello

I did a key code search on a 1993 toyota corolla . The key code was located on the passenger front doors lock cylinder (door lock tumbler). You have to disassemble the door panel and remove the lock cylinder from the door to read the tiny numbers on the lever of the lock cylinder..I would recommend calling your local toyota dealer and confirming it is on the lock cylinder before tearing apart the door....You would have to give them the code to get a new key cut. hope this info helps..

Ignition key cylinder

You have to have the ignition lock exposed, take the covers off above and below the lock body that holds the cylinder.
Insert the key fully into the keyway, and turn it to ACC. On the ignition lock body, press on the "stop pin", that pokes out of the lack body, above where the cylinder is housed. Press on the "stop-pin", and extract the cylinder. If the key can not be turn ed to ACC, the cylinder will not come out.
Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please let me know if this solves your problem.
