Question about 1997 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

1995 Isuzu Rodeo with 3.2L v6. With no power to the fuel pump. I've checked the continuity on the fuel pump wires they seem fine. No/low voltage on the wires to the pump, (.08 volts when DMM is set to 20). Checked pump after removing the tank and the pump, it purred. Checked the fuel pump relay it seems to have power on 1 circuit, (not sure if 2 circuits should have power(?)). Then checked with a known good relay. Then tried jumping/bypassing the relay. The schematic show the power should go from the fuse to the relay. The fuse is fine though. I don't believe the ECM is malfunctioning either. I'm not sure, but I don't believe it is. And with the fuel tank and pump removed I still don't get a check engine light, and it was working. Vehicle ran fine until I parked it a few days ago. Turns over without a problem but doesn't get any gas. I checked the filter and the lines before I pulled the tank, they were good. HELP!!!, How should I proceed from here. Thanks

I have the same problem with a 1993 Rodeo with the 3.2L. It ran fine 6 months ago, now it will not deliver power to the fuel pump. Have checked all fueses and relays, everything is fine there. I have one power line coming to the relay, one line going to the the fuel pump (jumping them will deliver power to the pump). There are two other wires coming to the relay, (a pink line and a black line) I have been trying to trace them to were they lead to, appears to be under the dash area. I believe one of those wires should deliver power to the relay switch when the key is turned on to send power to the fuel pump. But I do not know for sure. That is what I am trying at this time, if you find out what is wrong let me know, Thanks

Maybe a fuel filter clogged, or a relay to your fuel pump.

Faulty pump or wiring, check for corrosion in the plugs and test the pump. Also some vehicles have a fuel pump shut off switch in the trunk behind the carpet either left or right side.

You may want to try to see if the car will start while you spray starting fluid down the throttle body. If it doesn't, the problem may not be the fuel pump at all. There is an idle air control valve bolted to the front of the throttle body that can keep the car from starting as well.

If the car starts with the starting fluid, you might want to change your fuel filter. It's mounted under the car near the passenger rear door.

Since you replaced the filter it sounds like a classic fuel pump problem. Don't know your car but best thing to do is buy a repair manual for your car like haynes or chilton's at your local AP store. Read up on it at the trouble shooting section and the RR section. Good luck.

1st check your breather pipe on the fuel tank as it could be blocked and not breathing air into tank
This will happen after filling up with fuel and untill you haved used about 1to 2 gallons.
Other wise check fuel pump for either slight air leak or filter blockage...

95 Isuzu Rodeo. It will drive fine for a little

Check on the engine ground stud under the air intake tube.

This stud is well hidden under a lot of black electrical tape.

There are few wires ground to this stud.

THIS IS the ground for the ECU.

Take off the nut and check/clean all rings.

This is the grounding point for the ECU.

Next time you has the same problem, check the ECU and see is the LED is lite up.

NO power to ECU = no lite LED

ECU is near your left foot when you site on the drive seat.

Try tracing the fuel pump power wire from the tank back toward the engine. I've had a few Isuzus with corroded wires.

check alternator:

There are 2 connectors on the alternater. The round one has 3 wires. If there is no voltage on the green wire when the engine is running the alternator is bad. I'm not sure what fails internally but the alternator can put out fine charging voltage on the main black lead and not have voltage on that green wire. That wire is a trigger for the fuel pump relay. Voltage goes to the main power relay then to idiot lights in the dash then back to trigger the fuel pump relay. Along the way it goes in and out of the oil pressure switch(sender at the back bottom of passenger side of block with 2 yellow wires). This switch cuts voltage to fuel pump if no oil pressure. The green wire from alt is a safety in case of collision ect. Engine not running> no alt voltage on that wire>no fuel pump pressure>no fire. If this wire is bad it will not show up on the standard auto store test. And is a common failure. I had an brand new Isuzu rebuilt OEM alternator that was bad like this.
