Automatic light sensor not working

I fixed a Cadillac once and the coustomer was inadvertenly laying his sunglasses on top of the sensor on the dash and the car did not know it was daylight, so you might consider that aspect, otherwise it sounds like the sensor.

Can a audi a4 o2 sensor work on a audi a6

All 4 wire O2 sensors are compatible in function. The only difference is the plug for the wiring loom.
A B5 A4 and a C4 A6 should have the same plug...

I wouldn't use a second hand O2 sensor though.., always buy new.

Oils in our skin and a combination with sunlight interact and deteriorate the plastic. Maybe try buffing and armorall.

How to change air filter for Audi 2.0 TFSI 2005

1. Unplug the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
2. Undo the spring clips and pull out the turbo inlet connector. 3. Remove the two T-25 screws on the air snorkle as shown below. 4. Remove the engine cover by pulling up HARD where indicated by the green circles in the photo below. 5. DO NOT APPLY ANY FORCE where indicated by the red diamonds in the photo below. 6. If it's cold weather, make sure the engine is warm so that the rubber grommets warm up and are flexible enough to come off. Cold, brittle plastic and stiff grommets will lead to a broken airbox/cover even if you otherwise do everything correctly. 7. Pull up on the rear driver's corner (near the battery box) first, then the rear corner where the MAF sensor is, then the fronts.

My 1999 Audi 1.8 auto dies when I take my foot off the throttle, happened once before, faulty electronics?

It sounds more like a fuel/air problem or an engine-management system problem (the onboard computer or a sensor ..). If it was faulty electrics the car would maybe not start or run erratically and misfire.

Start with the easiest first - check the air filter. It may be blocked/dirty. Remove the air filter and see if the same fault occurs. If it doesn't occur - the air filter needs changing.

Have a look on my website www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk and choose 'Volvo 960' from the drop-down list. Yes, your car is an Audi, but it may just need a clean inside of the airbox and connected tubes. There's a couple of photos on my website that may help.

If the same fault occurs after removing the air filter and a clean up, it may be something like the idling sensor at fault. The air/fuel mixture on a car is controlled electronically. There are actually a number of sensors (such as the camshaft timing sensor) which can cause similar problems to what you describe.

It doesn't sound as if you have a big problem. Rather than change sensor after sensor in an attempt to cure the problem (and waste money) - the cheapest option is to take the car to a workshop and pay them to connect the management system to their computer. Let them identify the fault and you can do the repair work yourself.

State Emissions Test

Sounds like a failure of the engine coolant temperature sensor, which is a known weakness on the B5 chassis Audi A4 (model years 96-01). The sensor is relatively inexpensive ($20-30) and if you call up ECS Tuning (www.ecstuning.com) or Pure Motorsports (www.purems.com) with your VIN number, they can send you the correct sensor (there are three types, identified by color of the connector - black, blue, or green). Changing it is somewhat of a pain due to its location, but it can be done in 30-40 minutes. You have the 12 valve 2.8 V6 - take a look at www.audidiy.com and www.12v.org (two dedicated Audi sites) - there are a ton of tech procedures on those sites, and you'll likely find what you need there - a detailed, step by step, photo-referenced procedure on how to change the sensor.
