1998 Chevy Monte Carlo - Doesn't start. Replaced the alternator

Replaced alternator, started right up, then turned it off after driving it for 5 minutes and wouldn't start. No lights, no clicking, no radio, nothing. Battery is a few years old.

Start the car then remove the negative battery cable if the car still runs them your alternator is working properly and you need a battery. I have also gotten bad rebuilt alternators from on several occasions for this type of car and had to put on new AC delco ones but they are a little more expensive.

You could have ran over something when you were driving and acidently ripped off the power cable to the starter. If their is no power to the starter their will be no click when you turn the key.

The Starter silenoid is probably what the problem is. And the knocking could that be a loose starter? The two problems doesn't seem connected.

I have changed my alternator and battery twice! why does my 98 Monte Carlo shut off during my driving

Hi Carl, When it shuts down do the ignition and warning lights come onto the dash or is the dash blacked out? What has caused you to think its the alternator and battery? When it cuts, does it start right up again, or do you have a problem to get the starter motor to turn the engine? Have you checked the battery connections. Have you checked anything else for faulty connections? Regards John

99 chevy monte carlo was running fine, then one day it didnt start, no lights or power from battery. What could this be?

Possible Problems 1. Battery dead (if the horn does not blow then that's what it is) 2. Alternator is malfunctioning (the thingy that makes the sound when you turn the key in the ignition)

1997 Chevy Monte Carlo - Started the car and engine races, I can not drive it like this, does the throttle position sensor need to be replaced or is it something else?

unless tps broke and has lodged / wedged 'paddle' NO. unplug it and start car see if it stops. it should set a check engine lite though.

1998 Monte Carlo 3.1 liter stalled out making horrible noise only code coming up is PO305 which is #5 cylinder misfire, what could be the cause wires and coil have spark number 5

dont know what the noise is with out more discripttion but if you have spark and the plug is good it might be a bad injector or the intake gaskets may be leaking and leting the anti freeze leak in common for 3.1 is it hard to start and when you say stalled is that driving or parked or starting the car and it dies back out?
