Replaced alternator, started right up, then turned it off after driving it for 5 minutes and wouldn't start. No lights, no clicking, no radio, nothing. Battery is a few years old.
Start the car then remove the negative battery cable if the car still runs them your alternator is working properly and you need a battery. I have also gotten bad rebuilt alternators from on several occasions for this type of car and had to put on new AC delco ones but they are a little more expensive.

You could have ran over something when you were driving and acidently ripped off the power cable to the starter. If their is no power to the starter their will be no click when you turn the key.

The Starter silenoid is probably what the problem is. And the knocking could that be a loose starter? The two problems doesn't seem connected.
