Hard to shift gears when cold

Could be the shift cable is dry for oil due to the age. You may have to replace it. You could disconnect the linkage at the trans and try it to confirm.

95 buick lesabre shifts hard

1. There may be a vacuum leak anywhere under the hood.
2. The vacuum governor mounted on the transmission is broken (has a ruptured diaphragm). Easy to replace, has one bolt and a small (one inch) locking plate.
3. Replacement at AutoZone is around $12~~20.

Hope this helps!

Hard shifting

Hello;
The age of your truck could indicate a common problem with the transmission. The ignition switch or the neutral safety switch could be the fault here. I lean more towards the ignition switch. When the trans, tach and speedo start to go haywire, the switch needs to be replaced.

Trans

I had a similar problem with my 1997 F250 only with 1st & 2nd gear. At the same time the ABS light was on and the speedometer was acting eratic. In my case it was a bad speed sensor on the rear differential. About $30.00 and took me less than 15 minutes to fix.

I'm assuming you have already looked at the trans for any loose or worn electrical or vacuum lines and connections.

I assume you have a 700 R4 trans. Check your throttle linkage. Sounds like it's out of adjustment, maybe loose in the holding bracket.

I had the same thing! It was a computer issue. It only cost me about $35.00.
