Try another key, you can also jump the solenoid under the hood on the passenger side, big terminal to the little terminal. Keep your hands clear of moving parts. This test will determine if the starter is bad ( or wiring to starter ) or if your ignition switch or related components are defective.

SOURCE: Lincoln Mark VIII wont start

if you tried to jump the veh. when the batt. died, then you may have fried a fusable link in the harness. use a test lite to (CAREFULLY) look for voltage leading away from the batt. also you may want to check and see if someone can hear the relay click on as you try to start. (it is sometimes hard to hear it, so you want minimum back ground noise). good luck!

SOURCE: 2000 lincoln navigator wont start its not the battery, altenator

If it starts, even after turning motor off (immediately) while the engine and ambient temperature are quite warm, it could be the starter relay (which is inexpensive), a starter- not inexpensive- a neutral-safety-switch, or an host of other electronic problems that Navigators/Expeditions are notorious for tormenting their owners.

The relay is what I finally was able to have fixed- and it was only $56 to have an independent shop do it.

Good Luck!

How do you deactivate the anti-theft system in a 1997 ford explorer

Sorry to say, you can't. Needs on a scanner to see what's not turning on when cold. I just did a van. They said security. I couldn't get it not to start. It got really cold one morning, then it wouldn't start. Checked on the scanner, everything was good. Went to the starter and loosened, then tightened the 2 nuts for ignition and battery. It was just a bad connection of the wires. It was a 99.

1996 Chevy Astro V6 67K wont start when cold, needs engine starter fluid, ok when warmed up. Runs smooth. What is wrong?

I would say that the choke sensor (or whatever it is called) went bad & isn't telling the computer that it's cold & requires more fuel. Instead of starter fluid, did you try to push the foot feed 1 or 2 times?

check that the auto choke is properly adjusted as it indicates that the engine needs a rich mixture to start when cold.

I have a 2002 Chevy Venture, it would not start for me. Checked all the fuses, changed the Starter Relay. Still wouldn't start. I was able to jump it off at the starter itself, and sometimes it will start...

simular problem. test light and process of elimnation says bad ignition switch. My venture won't cold start, but after inital start will start a day long. When cold the switch does not send siginal [yellow wire] to PCM for ground. Replacing ignition switch tommorrow.

2006 Hyundai Tiburon Question!

I live in Northern Ontario and I use my Tiburon as my 'winter beater'. Despite all of the problems with the car, mine starts reasonably well in very cold weather.

Getting your battery checked was a good start. The next step is to check your starter motor:

If the starter motor is failing, then it will just 'click' and not try to start the engine at all. Then, after a few attempts, the starter will suddenly work and start the engine just like normal. If this is the case, then get your starter replaced.

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

Car turns over but won't start

one thing you need to remember.... as it gets colder (that's not cold yet) the battery gets less efficient as the demand for more power increases with the starter. were you able to start it by boosting it.... also what weight motor oil is in it. 30 to 50 weight oil turns to the consistency of molasses in cold weather.
