Question about Cars & Trucks
Stopped at a stop sign and when I tried to pull off, the transmission was not engaged and would not engage in any gear...park works fine. I had no previous problems or indications of a transmission problem...fluid level was fine.
Time for a rebuild! This is either a clutch pack, planetary gear or pump.

Is it 4x4? If so try placing it in 4wd. If it goes trans is ok if not it's broke

Tatter Todd quickly came to the rescue. I followed his guidance of shifting through all gears, circulating and spreading the tranny fluid, being patient, and it worked. I ended up having to add more fluid which fixed the problem.

Does it still have park? If not, check the differential. It is very unusual for a 4L60E to just completely quit - especially if it is clean.

Try unplugging the electrical connection on the transmission to lock it in 3rd. It might get you moving. Although the transmission is going to need rebuilt or replaced.

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.

SOURCE: overdrive will not engage
Check the OD solenoid on top of the tranny (drverside) apply 12V + to it and take for a test run if she works then you know the problem may be the OD relay, temp switch or its wiring. I had just simply rewired a new OD switch.
Please let me know if this help.
