Question about Cars & Trucks

93 lexus LS400

A friend of mine put the batter in backwards, I suspect, because though the starter was bad locking the motor because it jammed the fly wheel, the sulinoid still relayed [it made a clicking noise] and the horn worked, now after fixing the starter problem, the lights on the dash cluster works but goes dim when I turn the ignition key to start, there is now the correct new battery, headlights are bright, radio works etc. but now there is nothing as foras the relay clicking, and the horn doesnt blow. what could be going on.....any ideas?

When the battery was connected in reverse some electrical components were damaged. A motor, a relay, headlights can work both ways but not printed circuits in electronics. You are lucky you did not toast your computer!!!!!!!

Lexus 93 ls400 remote not working for driver's door

if all other doors work the door lock actuator needs replaced most likely. if door switch works the same. if not then it could be a bigger problem in the circuit or remote control module. use a meter to test for signal to lock actuator. if no signal then ck control unit. if signal replace lock actuator.

My 93 Lexus LS400 won't start. It clicks and according to the battery charger it has a full charge. when i first turn the ignition is slowly wines down then clicks. let me know. thanks

your battery isn't fully charged, or your battery contacts need to checked/cleaned!! The starter isn't getting enough power, this is the reason for the slow spin and clicks.

Hi:
You might just have a loose connection, or a bad starter motor.

A good helpful resource would be to subscribe to : www.alldatadiy.com It is approx $20,, but very good troubleshooting and how to manual.

Replace/fix starter on 1991 Lexus LS400

Not too bad. Not much room, just enough to drop the starter. It is probably easier to go up through exhaust if you can get your exhaust shield off the manifold .

I have a 1998 Lexus LS400 with a clicking sound when I try to start the engine )will not turn over the starter). Also both tail lights burnt out like a short caused this. I replaced them both then one blew...

You may have corrosion inside your battery cables or a loose connection somewhere.

If you have a voltmeter connect one lead to the POSITIVE post of the battery and the other to the POSITIVE post on your starter while you have a friend crank the engine
WATCH YOUR HANDS!

This is called a voltage drop test and you should see less than 0.5v on the multimeter while you are trying to start it, if you have high resistance (corrosion bad connections) you will see a higher voltage. 0.5v is the MAX you should see.

Do the same test on the ground side of the circuit, connect to the NEGATIVE battery terminal and the starter case, your voltage reading should be 0.1v or less

1994 Lexus LS400, Location of the Starter ? ?

The starter pinion gear engages into the fly wheel so therefore, its should be mounted where the motor bolts to the transmission. On most V-8's, like you have, it will be on the underside of the motor. Most likely, on the passenger side. Hope this helps. Good luck.
