Backfiring is a timing problem. It happens when one of the cylinders fires while one of the valves is still open. Your timing should advance as the rpm's increase. Carburated vehicle have what's called vaccum advance and if that vaccum advance line is disconnected it will cause what you describe. There should be a vaccum line that connects from the carb to the distributor that controls your vaccum advance. The sputtering at idle is also probably a symptom of a disconnected vaccum line.

I am looking for a vacumn pump for that runs with booster brake it is what generates pressure to the brakes

the vacume is produced by the engine not a pump if there is no vacume getting to the booster either the hos is disconnected (broken) or something is wrong with the engine..first disconnect the hose going to the booster start the engine and verify if there is suction by blocking the hose with your finger shut off the engine if there was vacume and your pedal is hard your brake booster is probably bad

I have an 87 mustang gt,can the thermactor system be disengaged without causing harm to the engine or anything else, I live in San Antonio and vehicles are not required to be tested for emmisions so...

other than being illegal if yes all of that can be bypassed. Remove the smog pump and lines and plug the holes in the back of the cylinder heads with pipe plugs. remove the vaccume lines for the themactor silinoids and plug any off going to the engine. then you can go order a shorter belt and no more smog system. it was installed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Cranking issues

This issue is caused by a fault in the evap. emmision system. In the engine compartment there is a purge valve that takes in engine vaccum and fuel vapours. The valve is malfunctioning. It is located on the right side of the intake planum.

My impala is missing ever since I ran it into a snowbank this last week. My husband thinks it is a vaccum line. Where would be the most likely place the vaccum line would become detached?

There are numerous vacuum lines on your vehicle. if you can not locate the detached line visibly, you might need to take it to a shop and have them put it on a smoke machine. Although, to be honest, most vacuum lines are on top of the motor, and I would have to say that a vacuum line is probably not the culprit.

Your vehicle is old enough to have old and brittle Vaccum Lines.... Buy a few feet of Vaccum hose and cut one piece at a time and replace all the vaccum lines on your entire engine. Never take a whole hose off completely when you do this. Only take one end off at a time, plug in the new hose, then do the same with the other end. Vaccum hoses are a major hidden "Problem Creator" that is over looked all too often.. It is a cheap fix, a often solution to solve your problem as described. Good luck...

I have a 86 chevette 1.6 rough idle when put into gear.

It may have a vacuum leak, and /or a dirty carburator that may need to be overhauled.
