Engine malfunction light - winter time only

Hi I have inherited a Chevrolet lacetti 1.6 - 56 plate, from my nan with only 15,000 miles on clock. In the winter months the engine malfunction light comes on, then it loses power, and sometimes cuts out completely when I am driving! In the summer I have no hassle at all. I have it for diagnostic test where the garage stated a misfire was detected, they took it for a test run and could see no other problem. Anyone know why it should be like this in the winter time?? Many thanks if anyone can help.

SOURCE: Lacetti Chevrolet. Malfunction Indicator light is on.

It may be the same problem as my 56 plate Lacetti. The yellow malfunction light came on two weeks ago and two days ago, both times shortly after filling up with petrol to the brim, and I suspect it is the petrol sensor as I only clicked the petrol cap once after fitting it back - the handbook says click it several times. The yellow light also came on yesterday after taking the car a short journey so it is likely that the sensor is still picking up a small escape of petrol, but the car has been fine today with no light appearing now that the fuel level has dropped a bit. Like you, I have not noticed any drop in power with the light on.

SOURCE: malfunction indicator lamp illuminated on daewoo lacetti

The check engine light comes only when the computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test

Chevrolet lacetti problems

just like my death clock.
cant be reprogrammed.
its and A/T tranny right>
PRNDL,
so the shifter linkage would have to be way off , it REV fails.
it either the shifter or a bad tranny.
we check the cable first. easy, and is 100x cheaper, if bad.

Check engine light went on on my 2005 chevy silverado @ 102,000 miles. Never had an issue before. But I noticed that it has been knocking lately for about 15,000 miles. Mechanic friend said not to worry,...

Hi, it could be a wiring issue. I would check for a broken connection or bare wire shorting to ground. Usually though, when the computer loses the knock sensor signal, it will ****** the timing to a safe range that will not allow the engine to knock. If you tell me which engine you have, I can give you more specific troubleshooting steps, such as the reference voltage for the circuit.

What is the recommended service for 2004 chevy

Service your cooling system every 5 years or 150,000 miles. The GM Dex Cool has a life of 5 years or 150,000 miles which ever comes first. Replace the thermostat also and buy the fail safe thermostat, it cost a bit more but worth it.

Service the engine (spark plugs and wire) every 100,000 miles or till engine management prompt attention. (service engine light DTC code)

Service the transmission every 3 years or 60,000 miles, replace the transmission oil and filter. Transfer case fluid and differential fluid.

Service the engine oil and filter every 6 months or 3,000 miles. Lube Chassis

Service the air filter and cabin air filter, wiper blades every 15,000 miles or once a year.

The malfunction light has come on . my chevrolet lacetti is under warranty. what happens as regards to paying for repairs if it is needed

If your car is still under warranty you need to take it to the dealer for repairs , if you tamper with any thing you will void the warranty , as long as the repairs are covered you don't pay

O2 sensor(s) are fouled...Try running "SeaFoam" ($9) at Advance Auto Parts and WalMart. Add to your tank as instructed and drive at least 100 miles...repeat every 15,000.

Fuel-consumption

Drive slower and easier. about 1 or 2 BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT DON'T PASS ANYONE . When you accelerate accelerate nice and easy watch the tachometer try to keep it below 3000 rpm all the way up to your cruise speed nice and easy don't worry about the guy behind you . Brake easy if you are coming to a light take your foot off and coast and try to time the light so its green when you get there. then EASY EASY on the gas keep it under 3000 RPMS all the time you are accelerating.
No special oil no special spark plugs or fancy air filters just factory parts whren you tune up every 3 or 4 years and change your oil about every 3 or 4 years yes 3 or 4 years it wont hurt it a bit just remember to always check the oil and add if it gets 1/2 Qt low. change the fuel filter EVERY EVERY 15,000 MILES fuel injection professional pressure cleaning once a year Air filter when it is dirty, please dont believe all those gimicks out there I have a car we change the oil about every 4 years and it has 350,000 miles no engine work yet runs every day passes emsssions every year no repairs needed fuel filters once a year or 15,000 miles
