I have an externally regulated 1991 crown victoria. I am having trouble removing the bad voltage regulator. For one screws seen to be spinning in place (I'm relatively sure this is the original regulator). And the clip is not wanting to come undone. Any suggestions?

Nuts and bolts often rust, especially in older vehicles. Sometimes it is easier to just cut them off with a Dremel or similar rotary tool. I hate spending 15 minutes cussing out a corroded screw when I can cut it in 5 minutes.

You have a voltage regulator that regulates the battery charge. When you removed it you probably bypassed the voltage regulator and your car was running with too many volts and causing it to overheat.

Low voltage at idle

You might need to remove the alternator and carry it down to your partstore so they can bench test it and determine if it is charging properly? It could be the voltage regulator in the back of the alternator which held by four screws?

91 crown vic. Externally regulated. Trying to remove bad voltage regulator but it seems the screws are spinning in place. Any suggestions?

Insert a screwdriver under the device and lift it up as you are rotating the screw, or put the blade under the screw head and pry it up as you turn it.

Intermittent charging

Sounds as if the voltage regulator is going bad. Most are now located on or inside the alternator itself. Passing the test with the problem being intermittent makes a case for the regulator. I suggest getting a regulator, or replace the alternator with a friends if you have one whose model will fit.

'95 Ford Crown VIctoria left rear door motor runs but window will not go up and down.

It sounds like the power window motor is still running but you have a problem with the regulator arm. If you remove the door trim panel and water shield you can have a look to see where it has been disconnected from the motor or if the regulator arm itself is broken.

When i come to a stop the volts drop to a qorter. when i speed up they go back up to normal only when the headlights are on.

this may be a bad battery or the voltage regulator the regulator may be built into the alternator if so replace the alternator but anny local autoparts store can check the alternator and battery while still in the vehaicle

My 91 crown victoria wont go over 40 mph

Could be several things. Fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, collapsed exhaust pipe, plugged catalytic converter. Take it to an autoparts store and have the scan and retrieve the computer codes. This may help determine the problem.

have your alternator check at autozone or advance auto for free!! Sounds like the voltage regulator is bad...hopefully this helps
