when your engine went into that 5 second sputter,
your computer or "PCM" did not get a constant signal from the crank or cam sensors that the engine was running.
These two sensors tell the computer what RPM the engine is turning so it can adjust fuel and spark.

The lambda sensor is located in the exhaust. There are 2, 1 before the catalytic convertor and 1 after. The lambda sensor senses how much oxygen is in the exhaust gases and continually adjusts the fuel/air mixture so that the oxygen level is correct. If the lambda sensor fails and senses the incorrect amount of oxygen it may adjust the fuel/air mixture so that the engine doesnt run properly.

When the light comes on, one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are stored in the engine control module. These DTCs remain even if the light goes out. To address a Check Engine Light problem, the DTCs are retrieved and the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed in order to determine the problem.
Just scanned the computer and send us code number find it.
