Loosing primary ignition

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1320 is a "manufacturer-specific" OBD fault code defined by Nissan in this case simply as "Ignition Signal Fault".

This is a kind of "catch-all" primary ignition fault code. It is common for this code to set along with other codes.
Service information from the manufacturer states that if there are any other ignition codes present (like P0340) service those codes FIRST before trying to fix this code.

DTC P1320 sets when the ECM does not receive an ignition primary signal during engine cranking or running.

The possible causes of this code include:
> Open or shorted primary ignition circuit. (wiring)
> Defective power transistor
> Defective resistor
> Faulty Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor

The location of some parts and the routing of the wiring depends on if the vehicle is equipped with the 4-cylinder or the V-6 engine. (nice-to-know information - ESPECIALLY when you are asking for help getting your engine running correctly).

On either engine, the power transistor and the CMP sensor is part of the distributor assembly.

On the 4-cylinder engine, the resistor is on the left front side of the engine next to the distributor.
On the V-6 engine, the resistor is on the top right side of the engine (see diagram)

The diagnosis of this code must include checking both the power side and ground side of the primary ignition circuits to determine the cause. The wiring for each of the available engines varies slightly. I recommend going to where you can subscribe to the specific service information for your vehicle and have access to step-by-step instructions on how to diagnose this code as well as wiring diagrams for the vehicle. The small annual fee is well worth it if you do your own work on your vehicle.

Hi i have a 1999 nissan pick up,it has the na20 motor,2l 8valve,my plugs keeps on getting oil on them,by that happening it kills the plugs.anybody know why this is happening?ive drained the oil and found...

Do a compression test. You may have bad rings. That could allow oil inside the cylinder and fuel into the crank case. I don't know what the compression should be but all cylinders should be the same if not very, very close to one another. If one shows 100psi then the rest should show the same.

You are correct in your idea about how the plug wires are attached. If you want to duplicate control wiring you would need to obtain the wiring diagram of the brand of ignition system you want to duplicate. (MSD etc. These systems also require a small battery in order for them to operate. Wiring to distributor was far less complex when vertex type magneto distributors sere used as all that was required was a ground wire to shut them down (exactly like your lawnmower works), As far as plumbing, all systems need to meet safety standards set forth by the NHRA but aside from meeting those standards, each engine builder decides where to locate such items as primary and secondary fuel injectors etc. If you go to the NHRA website, you may be able to find a decent photo of someones engine...that may be helpful. Also check the rule book for such items as kill switch location, brake, chute release etc.
