What engine, diesel? we dont know that, nor year. and even country helps.....
the hot cool is air pockets in the engine block near the dash guage sensor, check AF levels at rad cap , cold, not side tank.
or the dash sensor wires are loose.

Another solution may be the thermostat is bad. If it runs longer with the heater on it is probably the thermostat.

SOURCE: When started idels high about 2000 rpm then drops when hot cold ?

the iac probably has carbon built up around it this controls the idle speed try cleaning it first,if not it could be a bad iac or a vaccum leak that the iac takes some time to compensate for to control idle.

Engine wont catch

Catch?
cranks fast
starts every time.
idles fine hot or cold , or both? hot idle not too fast.
i race engine , in park and neutral, I can hit 3500 rpm easy, can you.
i release brakes, (brakes are not packed in ICE , are they?)
I select 1gear or reverse (A/T or m/t)
the car moves or dont move, which is it, my guess catch = no move at all.
I try to drive, i look at RPM and MPH
RPM moves up and MPH track.
track means they both move in a linear progression.
RPM rises and for all RPM increases MPH also increases.
does it?
if all that works then we have an engine power issue.
weak on hills?

Loud idle running hot in park but not in drive

double posted
post RPM in both modes,
it must be the same
the ISC idle controls system controls idle at all times.
post RPM. 800 is normal. the exact valve is in the FSM
and posted under the hood in USA.
no country stated in 4000s posts so.... well, gee....
here, open the hood, look up, see EPA vacuum map
that is also the the engine size and type , and most state the normal
hot RPM clearly there, and is in the FSM.

here is the acid test. hot.
in park hot, rpm 800 if not the ISC fuction is dead
"idle speed controls"
good? yes.
then select drive. if RPM drops ISC is malfing.
now back to park. (all this is in the FSM to read)
now 800 hot. you turn on all heavy electrical loads
the rpm does not drop. Head lights + heater fan, and defrost.
all these test he ISC, if it fails its bad.
what does bad mean, that means its out of control
and you do further testing to find the reasons.

vast reasons.
Ill name 3:
intake air leaks. aka vacuum leaks.
ISC valve dirty , clean it.
throttle cables , misadjusted.
cold start air valve stuck open hot.

Engine dies when running. Intermittently dies while running no sputtering or other warning, all of a sudden the engine is off. Mostly happens at lower rpm's. Starts right back up after putting it in park.

first thing to replace and cheapest would be the fuel filter ,if that doesn't fix the problem , it may be the fuel pump . GM fuel pumps are in the gas tank, and they have a built in thermo fuse . when fuel pumps get old 60000 miles or so..the motor in fuel pump starts running to hot and the thermo fuse kills the power till it cools down then it will run till it gets hot again note the cool down time keeps getting longer and longer

1 Solution for 89 WRANGLER GETS HOT DIES/COOL THEN STARTS

One possible explanation for this is that the crankshaft position sensor is going bad.

Over iddles in park

For the high rpm part, have you looked to see if there is a vacuum leakage or possibly a fault in the Idle Air Control motor.

With overheating since jeeps are single belt driven it could be possible the fan is starting up when driving slow or parked because the belt is moving right. Or look for leaks in the coolant maybe it's not getting enough coolant.

fluid in the glove box though, can you be more specific with that one.

Jeep Cherokee Sport 2.5 D

By power washing it you probably have water in the electrics and the electronics!! Take the Jeep to a good auto electrician and he might be able to tell you where the problem is. At least then you'll know where to start looking.
THIS is what happens when you pressure wash modern engines!!
